Hey all,

I just went to www.coldsteel.com (and obviously they are a bit slack in updating the page) but if you click on the TOP RIGHT hand corner, where it says "Dealer Corner" - all the new products, photos, descriptions AND (retail) prices are there.

It appears they are now offering black coated versions of their existing high end models like the Trailmaster and Gurkha kukri, plus a whole heap of swords!

Cheers from New Zealand,
Daniel.

I heard that the black-coated versions of the blades you mentioned will replace the polished versions. I think the Laredo will then be the principal polished blade bowie.

Well, it looks like some of Cold Steel's controversy can be put to rest. Way back when they introduced their line of stockman-type knives, someone (I don't remember who-Cougar Allen maybe?) said that those knives were made FOR Cold Steel by Camillus. Of course, some folks posted that they didn't believe it. Well, click on the picture of the new Trail Guides, then go to www.camillusknives.com , click on camillus knives, then one-handed openers then look at the Sierra lockbacks. Same exact handle! Even has the same pivot! Except the Sierra's say "Camillus" around them and Cold Steel's says "Cold Steel". And before some of you accuse me of trying to start a flame war against Cold Steel, search on my name and Cold Steel. I am a big supporter of Cold Steel, and love carrying my Voyagers daily. When I heard about Cold Steel's new stuff, I was soooo excited, and couldn't wait to see them. I had already started saving my money, even though I hadn't even seen them yet. I have to say..... I am disappointed. At least in their new folder offerings. I read on Knife Center of the Internet's Shot Show page about the new Pro-lites, and how they were similar to the Griptilions. They look more like the Spyderco Pro-grip with a liner lock. Much as I love Cold Steel, I think that I will just get a mini-griptilion. Heck I can get a similar blade shape, plus the Axis-lock and a reversible clip. Like I said, I'm not trying to start anything here, I was just so looking forward to these new knives, and, at least for me, this was a let-down.

But, in an effort to end this post on a positive note. WOW!! Check out the new swords!! That two handed great sword had me droolin'! Too bad I'm more of a folder kind of guy.;)
Oh, and no, I don't think that there is anything wrong with Cold Steel having Camillus make their knives for them. Lots of companies out there have another company make their product and then put their name on it. That's not what I have a problem with, I was just hoping to see something new and inovative from one of my favorite knife companies. Oh, well.......

Ps: Thanks for the link Daniel!

Just a couple of comments. So you'll know, Flinx, Camillus makes the Cold Steel knives that feature Carbon V steel including the new Trail Guide so that should clear that up for you.

I think the comparison of the Pro Lite to the Griptilian is unfortunate. While the blade profiles are similar, the knives generally are not. The Pro Lite is a less expensive knife designed to appeal to a more budget conscious customer than the more expensive Griptilian.

Camillus makes knives not only for Cold Steel, but also knives that go under the Remington name, Becker; and in the past, Buck's 300 series pocketknives were also make by Camillus on contract before Buck tooled up to make them themselves.

Just as Cold Steel's Japanese-made knives (i.e., Voyagers, etc.), are made on contract with the same Seki-City maker than makes Spyderco's and SOG's (for example) Japanese knives.

Yeah, I knew about the Voyagers being made at the same plant as Spyderco's knives. Yet the Voyagers are different from Spyderco's zytel knives. I was hoping for something similar with Cold Steel's new offerings, not the same exact handle with a different blade shape. Like I said before, I've come to expect great things from this company, and I'm just a little disappointed. I was hoping that maybe they would scale-down the Recon-1 folders to a 3" blade so I could carry one legally around here. Oh, well.

I like the Trail Guide full grind blade better than the Sierra sabre ground blade. Having Camillus make them just insures high quality. My only complaint is that the handles seem a little large for the blade size.
