Cold steel night shade knives? Strong? Sheaths?

I am considering the cold steel night shade series. How strong are they compared to a steel knife? Where can I get sheaths that contain no metal? Seems like a nice undetectable backup knife. I would opt for a neck set up for one, boot for a tanto, and maybe some type of iwb/ pocket sheath.

Why the hell would you want that?

Why the hell would you want that?

i dunno why but i laughed my a off at that:D

i have both the push/punch dagger things i got just to check out and their ok but i wouldnt count on it to much i mean its very strong and pointy but not SHARP ya know, like a jail house shank, plastic, pointy, they will punch thru drywall and cheap hollow wood doors, so im sure if you punched someone in the face with one it would be bad... but why not just carry a metal knife? what do you do that you need backup from a knife?

I really never got the idea of a "covert" blade. It seems to me if you are going to carry something like a blade for protection just carry the real deal. Not a letter opener. Kinda like being a little pregnant. Ya either are or not.

Might be better off carrying a thick pencil. At least when someone see you with it they won't immediately want to shoot/slap you.

In all seriousness the nightshades are not knife replacements, shiv alternatives is more like it.

I want to set up my EDC so I allways have a knife with me. Would be nice to have one that I can allways wear. They use metal detectors at a sportsbar where I go a few times a year to watch the big games. I never carry anything in there and figure this would be better than nothing.

My regular carry is a benchmade axis rear pocket for my weak hand. I am now adding a Spyderco Pical to my front strong hand pocket.

The things I need now are a covert neck knife, and a steel neck knife.

Might want to look into a belt buckle knife as an option.

Here is your problem. A cs nightshade series knife is really only good for stabbing. However you can open up a whole buch of problems carrying something considered "sterile" Think about how it looks trying to carry something devised to be hidden from detectors. I know I will most likely be flamed for stating this and people will say I would rather have it and defend myself and worry about this after.
However you can leagally carry other items better than a letteropener. Keychain with a dogs choke chain gives better reach than a plastic spork. A impact pen like the hinderer or even cheepo S&W will work well.
My sugg is just look at other means that will give ya better defence and less hassles.

Well, as far as a sheath goes, kydex is plastic, although it usually uses metal rivets to keep it folded. The amounts of metal are minor though, not much different than rivets in jeans, belt buckles, etc.

Legal disclaimer by someone with no legal expertise: If or some reason you ever need to use such a "knife" in place that uses metal detectors to weed out that sort of thing (bar, airport, federal building), or simply get caught with it, you'll have a hell of a time explaining why you're carrying a substitute weapon designed specifically for circumventing security measures. You don't want that kind of heat. If you're really that worried about having something that can be used as a weapon, look into a strong, stiff pen like a Zebra F-701, or a classic Bic clear pen.

Well Ya been warned, but think of this. I am doorman at night, and Leo full time and we use metal detectors(handheld ) and if you think ya still want to go this route good luck to ya. I have seen all the buckle knives and I know I certainly would not be happy having someone slip one by me.

good luck you are going to need it.

United Cutlery sells some with Gil Hibben's name. There are other companies too

But the better option is the bowen knife company, its what are known for, and they make a good product.

That said, you couldn't pay me enough to do what you seem to be planning on doing, very bad idea

Don't do it, or you will feel sorry later.

If the place you're trying to sneak in has security, then you shouldn't worry too much about defending yourself with a weapon. If you want to have a self defense weapon on you all the time, you better off choosing something not lethal, like a kubotan (can make one yourself). If you want to scare off people just by angry stance, go to the gym and work out.

Cold steel night shade knives are bad letter openers and mainly designed for stabbing (killing). If you want one to play with at home, get it, but think 10 times before deciding to carry it. If you get caught with one, you will have a hell of a time explaining the reason for having it on you, even if you didn't really do anything "bad". And if you end up doing something "bad", that plastic thing will most certainly get you in much deeper pile of doodoo.

If you need ability to cut things at any time in any place, get a keychain knife. It is much more useful then buckle knife, not threatening and easy to carry through security.

As other have said, carry a pen/pencil (not necessarily tactical).
For about $10 you can get a truly useful tool that will help you in many ways and won't get you in trouble.

Years ago I got something similar to the Jungle Dart, for free, from a purchase I made from Botach.

Our old neighboorhood had a few break-ins so I figured what the heck and hung it in the shower and left it there. I never needed it for anything but it was piece of mind for my wife when she took showers at home alone during the day after exercise class.

It is not the ideal tool for the job but neither was the big hair pin the old lady stuck in a mugger a few years back.

I can think of worse things to buy for around $10

i would look into hide away knives, they are small enough to hide places like a hole in the tounge of your shoe or under your foot, then when inside go in the bathroom and "fix" your shoe. try not to go to jail tho

I agree that carrying these items is a bad idea. You don't need to carry things like that in places where no one else is supposed to be "armed". Unless your a "hitman" you don't need these things and if you are your way behind the learning curve asking questions like that here. On the other hand, if you need a "weapon" in a bar...look anywhere. Have you ever see what a full beer bottle or mug does to someone when you hit them in the head? Enough said, I hope you get the idea and stay out of jail.
