Cold Steel Norse Problem

I recently got a Cold Steel Norse hawk from ebay and notice the blade is crooked - looking at it blade on, it's canted to the right maybe 5 or 10 degrees. Is this a common problem? Is there a fix or should I not worry about it?

quite common problem with cold steel imo. their quality control is hit and miss.

I bought my Cold Steel Rifleman's 'Hawk back in early 1994 and it was/is absolutely perfect. The bit is perfectly aligned, perfectly flat and straight, and the eye is dead on centered.

Almost all of the Cold Steel Tomahawks I have seen since have been warped to some degree. It's been enough to deter me from buying any of them online... which is too bad because if you get one that's right, it's a very good tomahawk for the money.

yep, i got my plainsman hawk back in the mid 90's too and it has better fit and finish than my much more expensive atc ranger hawk. also came with a utility edge.

my frontier hawk on the other hand is quite warped. the edge bevels didn't even meet:(

Thanks for the replies. I was quite surprised by the canted blade of the Norse - I've recently gotten two poll axes, a frontier hawk and a rifleman's hawk (modified by the previous owner) and all have been perfect. I also have one of the discontinued battle axes that's perfect. A trail hawk is on the way - have they been suffering QC problems lately?

I think its just hit or miss, I have a rifleman and a norse that are perfectly fine, bought within the last year. You could always call CS and ask them to replace it. I hear their customer service is decent.

Is the blade itself crooked or is the head crooked on the haft?

It's definitely the blade. I'm sure it won't materially affect performance - I didn't even really notice it until I started sharpening but I wasn't expecting it.

I have emailed them about it but apparently the office is closed til Monday. I'll let everyone know what the response is.

This is an on and off problem. Back in the mid 90's I order afew hawks from cold steel 1 norse, 1 frontier, 1 rifleman's, and some other stuff. I got everything but the rifleman's hawk. It was on back order and it was the one Iwanted most. So I called the company and they told me that they had problems with the Taiwan factory quality with blades be off line with thee handle and as soon as they got some I would recieve one. I called back in about 6 months to check and the next production run was the same way. it took about 11 months to receive one but it came straight. Being as yours came off eeck bay they may say someone else bent it/used. But I ordered through one of their specialproject flyers andthey kept up quality. I hope the best for you, but online auctions you never know. I have done very well and not to hot online bidding.

we are a Cold Steel dealer, for our hawk-handling business.

Cold Steel just had a bad batch again earlier this year - only some hawks were affected, and it was only in aesthetics from what we sampled, but we had to send them back because we only use the Handpicked Cold Steel Hawks, which everyone loves on a good composite handle, or an improved one of their own IME.

they are still working through that batch as far as i know, so that might've been what ya got.

we are working on getting our own heads made now, but we will always like Cold Steel if this doesn't become a pattern.

Cold Steel has always been great with us about making things right, usually rather quickly.
