At the moment, the only CS knife I own is an ODA that I bought 15 (?) years ago when so many knives from the Camillus auction was being sold on the great big auction site. I always was impressed by it and now I am getting ready to purchase one of the S35v folders made in their factory in Taiwan. Still haven't figured out which model to pull the trigger on, going to be used for edc but since the prices are down this weekend I will need to make up my mind soon.

Especially the tanto recon 1 now. If you get one that is DLC coated (some are matte black PVD coated, long story) then it’s in the running for the best version of Recon 1 ever made.

This is because it’s the only version that kept the hollow grind (thin behind the edge, a major consideration), and is now sharpened all the way to the choil so it’s easier to sharpen and has more edge length than previous hollow ground R1’s.

There's a number of great EDC-choices under your parameters: Recon 1, American Lawman, SR1, and AK-47. I have three of the four listed, and they all great choices. The Talwar is another excellent pick.

New production AK47 and R1 shown below. The Recon has a Snaggletooth and deep clip. No edge reprofiling and cuts nicely. The AK47 is also now sharpened all the way down from the factory but lost the hollow grind (despite most ad pictures). Thicker behind the edge but otherwise set up nicely from the factory. I reprofiled it a bit to make up for the thicker grind.

After reviewing the many options, I have settled on an American Lawman. The thinness of the scales appealed to me as most other options are much thicker and would take up a lot of room in the pocket.

I recently got a 6" hold out in the S35VN, zero quality issue. Took me a long time to muster up the courage to buy at the newer prices. Now that I have it, I feel like it was a good deal for how much steel I got.
