Cold Steel "old style" knives

At a gun show today, I came across (and bought) 2 knives that looked like they could have come from the 1800's. We needed a couple of kitchen knives and these looked pretty nice (I always wished I could have lived during that time). The show was ending so I was able to get the guy down to only $20 for the pair.

On closer inspection, I saw they were made by CS, from their carbon V. They both have stamps on the blades to add that old time look and feel. Brass pins in the hickory handles and full tang. The dealer said they aren't made anymore and were just a brief offering by CS years ago.

My question is, are these of any value or did I just get what I was looking for, a couple nice camping/kitchen knives? That's fine, but I'm just curious.

Here's some pics, just for fun. Sorry, about the blurrie ones. Too lazy to take them again.

I have had a couple of those in the past.. They are good basic knives and make great users..

I think they went under the Red River brand. I believe you have the Elk Skinner (top) and the Scalper. I bought several of these, including one called the North American Hunter, re-handled them with moose antler slabs and gave one to my best hunting buddy and another to my Dad. Think of them as Moras on steroids. Great cutters!

Very good. I just wanted to check before I put them to work. Had never seen them before. Thanks for the info.

You could buy these without handles attached and supply your own also. I remember seeing them sold that way in the Crazy Crow catalog a long time ago, Like in 1998 or 1999. I always thought these would look way nice with some dyed jigged bone scales.

Ps. You got a good deal, when these were new, just the plain blades sold for around $15 for smaller one in your pic and about $18 for the larger one.

As Alberta Ed mentioned, they were sold under the Red River label by Cold Steel. They had a similar line known as Hudson Bay. They were great knives - its a pity they don't bring them back.

One is Red River and one is Hudson Bay

They are good cutters and users. I have had several of them. They remind me of the Russell Green River knives, and the Ontario and Old Hickory knives I see. All are high carbon 'grandma's butcher knife steel' blades that perform quite well. They stain up onions and some complain about the metal taste they leave on food but its never much bothered me at all. I like the way they cut and sharpen back up easy. My partner over on our forum at the KF takes those and turns them into some really nice reprofiled Nesmuk and other style smaller fixed blades from time to time. They sell for him quite well.
