Cold Steel or Ranger

You guys are better than me at this. As such, perhaps you can help?

I was looking at the Ranger Shank knife (www.rangerknives.com/Knives/index.html) and noticed that it is very similar to the Cold Steel True Flight Thrower (www.coldsteel.com/fixed-blades-throwers.html). Though one is sold as a regular knife and the other as a thrower. I compared them and noticed that the Cold Steel is made of Carbon V steel, is thicker and heavier than the Ranger Shank. As such, does this mean that both knives can be used for the same purpose or that the Cold Steel is better.

This is probably a dumb question but would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks!

Buy the Ranger knife!! It is a far superior knife to Cold Steel!! You get amazing customer service.

Well, what do you want to do with the knife? A throwing knife should be a bit differently optimized than a knife designed for other purposes.

Having said that, Ranger knives are semi-custom in the sense that Justin is willing to accomodate customer wishes within resonable limits without charging extra and he will do larger modifications for a charge as well. I just ordered a RD9 from him and I can tell you that in many ways Ranger knives are not really comparable to CS. At Ranger knives there is a guy that stands 100% behind everything that leaves his shop, who has probably touched and approved every single knife that leaves his shop and who offeres a warranty policy that is second to none. And all that for a very resonable price. Hardly comparable to a mass-produced item by a company with questionable morals. Just my $0.02.

I have no dobt that you would get a good knife either way, but I always like to support the little guy. Especially when the little guy has a reputation as good as Justin does. If it were me, I would choose the Ranger.

Having just visited his site again, I would go with the Airborn Ranger Combat knife. That thing was meant to be thrown!
