This is the single edged one; I don't want a double edged knife. :D
I'm looking for a simple long, not terribly thick (not a chopper), affordable fixed blade knife. No real need for it; mostly to screw around with, keep next to my bed, and -maybe- carry around doing -some- Army stuff. I haven't found a lot of reviews on this. Any thoughts? For my "needs", should I just get the tanto lite and save my money?
I'm not sure how I feel about the subhilt but if I don't like it I could always chop it off.

I have the oss next to my bed too.
this knife is light and sharp.

personally I think its a good stabbing knife that does look intimidating.

My brother has that knife and uses it on every camping trip we take. It seems to be a good knife for cutting tasks... but I wouldn't suggest battoning with it. We have a lot of bear where we camp and I believe that it is great for SD... very light and fast...so it would be great by the bed side. Imo the sub-hilt is great and feels comfortable in hand... even though it is just kraton overmold just like the rest of the handle. If you don't like it just take out a razor blade. Oh and I have to say that the sheath is decent as well.

How's the handle length? I wear somewhere between a 2XL and 4XL glove.

Any similar cheaper, "fighting knife" recommendations?

What's wrong with the classic KABAR? The large round handle is the most comfortable grip I have held. The CS GI Tanto is a fantastic value if you don't mind tantos. I paid $25 shipped and its my favorite fixed blade for messing around with. If you don't like the tanto shape you can always file it into a bowie.
