Okay, I'm a complete and total newbie when it comes to knives. I'm beginning to get real interested and I'm looking for a good knife or two to purchase. I was looking at Cold Steel's catalog and I saw the OSS. Has anybody had any experience with this blade?
My second question is: Is there a better company than Cold Steel that makes fixed blades? I'm pretty sure that CS gets their name put on half of their (imported) products and would not mind shying away from them.
Any other suggestions are welcome; I'm looking for a longer fixed blade that yields a wide array of capabilities and can withstand anything I can throw at it. (It also has to look nasty too :D ) I'm basically looking for a sturdy, big knife.

Thank you,
Richard Reavis

I've got an OSS, it's a lightweight dagger with a great feeling grip. (Although the hilt is just hard rubber & almost useless for defense against another knife.)
I also bought the Boker Magnum 13 dagger which is smaller, but wicked too!
They are overkill for camping..they're fighters... pure & simple.
They both take a super-sharp edge. Sorta expensive decorations really.

It's made in USA, and theyre are many knives you can get that are better than CS (which aren't that bad)

Go for a Ranger RD7. It a hard use knife that will serve you well. Their guarantee is even better.
