anybody got any experiance with the cold steel outdoorsman?
i'm thinking of getting one for a field/hunting knife.

I have the original model. It is a very stout blade, somewhat thick at the edge. I consider it a combat knife.

The Outdoorsman got very high praise when it first came out -- Ross Seyfried, who was then guiding in Africa, in particular liked it. The kraton grip is excellent under adverse cutting conditions, he said, and that has been my experience with other CS kraton crips (tanto, Master Hunter, California drop-point). I don't know what kind of steel CS used 10-12 years ago (400 Series mystery steel), but judging by my drop point and original tanto, it's very tough, highly stain resistant and holds a great edge. I suspect they use AUS8 now, and I have no complaints about that steel.
