They are great knives to say the least. Does it have a bone breaker on the spine? If so yeah it was made within the past few years, if not it could be like mine and made back in 1994 with the second batch of them. I'm not sure if it is the layered San Mai blade, but you could always contact CS about that and ask them.

it has a bonebreaker on the spine , john. and ill try to contact cold steel
thanks for your replay

Hello! I'm trying to id this knife I bought new early 1980's and left in a drawer until now. Coldsteel doesn't use id #'s like other makers?
Thanks in advance!

:) Welcome , kovel ! It's frowned up on this forum to post on a thread over ( I believe) 3 months old . This one is from 2007 . So you should just start a new thread . Might be better on the Cold Steel subform :https://www.bladeforums.com/forums/cold-steel-knives.895/

You cannot post pictures here directly . You must use a site such as "postimages.org" to host the image . Even I figured out how , so I'm sure you can too .;) https://postimages.org

If the line is on both sides of the blade and near the edge , it's likely San Mai . Perfect for field use !:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thanks everyone. Just signed up so I'm still navigating this great site!
I searched over on the Cold Steel sub forum and it looks like I have a first gen mini outdoorsman.
Lots of knowledge here! Cheers!
