Oh, man. I went to bed last night, trying to take my mind off chest trauma pain, thinking about this knife. The Ozark hunter is a copy of the famous Remington 1303/1306 folding hunter. It was part of the Country Classics or Country Cousins series from Cold Steel, made by Camillus I believe. I had a couple patterns, including the small stockman and I think a bird and trout? This knife was the reason I originally joined Bladeforums. I don't know if these were made in low amounts, or just a few made it into collectors hands. The only one that I have seen on BF was one that Bear Claw Chris Lappe was able to pick up. It put me on the path for an original Remington R1303 from 1984 (I'd dearly like to own an original from the 30's). I've also picked up a few of the Queen Mountain Mans, and now have a MM slipjoint. Also, the Northfield UNXLD 23 single blade trapper is a great alternative to this classic pattern. I still think about that Ozark Hunter from time to time. Not the be all end all of knives, but a grail if you will. I'd like to hear if anyone out there was able to find one of these, let's see your pics of the Ozark Hunter, and any similar knives. Thanks.

Best of luck finding an Ozark Hunter for sale- I've only seen a handful for sale in the last 5 years. I think they must have been severely limited.

It's a very nice pattern - I would like to pick one up as well. I do have the muskrat that was part of the Cold Steel series and think highly of it.

Man, the handle on that Queen is gorgeous. By the way, Dan, how goes the recovery?

Ken, I'm getting along. Every time cabin fever sets in or I get mad at not being so mobile, I'm just thankful I am alive and in one piece.

Mike, I saw that one in Australia, but thanks for the heads up.

LOL, these days it's hard to imagine Cold Steel (I own and use several CS knives and like them) putting their name on a traditional folder or slip joint.

A.G. RUSSELL sold this very same knife with bright yellow Delrin scales. Peach of a nice single blade knife. It is identical in form to my COLD STEEL version.

I didn't realize it was so rare. Fleabay score I guess. Maybe I'll carry it less.

Here's one Camillus made under the Remington label. The cert that came with it said it has 0170-6C blade steel, 0170-6C being the monicker Camillus gave Carbon V when they used that alloy for Camillus knives.

I believe this to be a second, as it has several fit and finish issues. Still fun to carry, though.

I thought that the R1303 and R1306 were both 440A, I just assumed all of the Camillus models were 440A except for the Country Cousins. Thanks for the info. What year is that one? I've had a few 1306's from 1990 and one 1303 currently from 1984.

AFAIK, all the Cold Steel traditionals were only made in Carbon V.

Not sure of the year it was made. I bought the Remington after Camillus closed. It may have been liquidation stock. Mike Latham had it on one of his back pages and I grabbed it.
