Cold Steel packing grease?

Wondered that in past, decided it wasn't worth trying to contact CS about it, as most any grease will work.

My choice of heavy grease for packing carbon steels(knives, guns, tools, etc) for long term storage has always been wheel bearing grease. Has worked well so far.

I think it is cosmoline. Had a bunch of it slathered on the CS Barong I received. Still lots of it in the rosewood sheath. Doesn't hurt anything but is a pain in the as to clean out.

getting it off wood is never fun, heating it up will definitely help(With my Mosins I always just start shooting a box of rounds or three through it, which gets receiver too hot to touch anyways, and does a nice job of cooking cosmoline out of the wood, just wipe it off then(some mineral spirits will help)

On metal, about any normal solvent takes it off well. Used WD40, hoppes, acetone, kerosense, carb/choke cleaner, whatever.
