Anyone get their hands on the new Cold Steel Point Guard yet? I kinda want to get one but can't find too much on it...

LOL! I was just thinking about the same exact thing yesterday. I've had knives with a similar design and liked them.

I'm not a fan of the AUS 8A or the neck hanging sheath. But, I am a huge fan of the 4" wharncliffe blade, g10 scales, and short handle with index finger hole!

I heard that Cold Steel has a good reputation with AUS8 steel. They must have the heat treating down pretty good, the ones I have worked with hold a pretty good edge.

I have not had any problems with AUS8 steel. Didn't know there was anything supposed to be wrong with it.

cold steel gets about as much out of aus8 as can be expected. aus8 is a fine grain fairly clean alloy. gets super sharp easily & will handle most jobs just fine. may not be the most wear resistant steel but is a good performer & chip resistance. hell of a lot better than most of what we had in the 70s.

I had a Cold Steel point guard, which I misplaced/lost. I like the blade so much I am in the process of ordering another.

The pros: The most blade (4 inches) you can get in the smallest/lightest space (and if I'm wrong I'd love to know the names of the knives that better it). Sharp out of the box, well made with satisfying fit and finish. Inexpensive.

The cons: Sheath. The sheath is horrible; I wish CS would revisit and rethink it.

Overall reccomended.
