Anyone seen the Proof video? I noticed they are offering an updated version on DVD now. Thinking about blowing five bucks on the shipping. Anybody have comments on this video (or the original)?

Hey all-

Don't blow any money on it- Grab a knife mag and find an add- they'll ship you the new DVD for free. Havn't fgot mine yet.

The first Cold Steel Proof video was very interesting... Just remember that they ARE kinda like adds for cold steel knives. That didn't bother me though.

The video features a whole bunch of knives being put through various torture tests... Not all go through all the same tests, and if you watch with a grain of salt you'll be fine. While it IS amazing, I've just never come upon a situation where my knife blade was being flexed by 90 degrees or whatnot.

Also many knife web dealers will ship you the vid for free with an order. CS does too.

I thought the video was kind of cheesy. I watch the video as a comedy, Lynn Thompson is one funny dude. Listening to him brag about his knives makes me laugh out loud!
Not that I don't like Cold Steel knives, I just think Lynn Thompson is a blow hard. The video is fun to watch, especially when they beat the crap out of their knives.

The 'More Proof' DVD and a new catalog can be had for free by calling 1-800-255-4716. They will ask where you saw the ad, just adlib and pick a knife publication. I ordered mine weeks ago when I got the new issue of Blade. ;)

I got the original video free with my Recon Scout.
When I put it on my wife said
"OMG, what is this...knife porn?"
Its fun to watch, once.
;)
:D

I got one old video and three new ones. Every time I buy something I get another one :) They are funny, beating on knives, hanging from knives, throwing knives and spears and axes. Not something you go back and watch again and again, though.

The portions for their badass knives and spears turned me off, but the Land & Sea Rescue demonstration made me want that knife (it's even more fun in person) and the serrated carving knife demonstration made me hungry.

Would rather see more useful demonstrations of things:

Lynn Thompson finding out he put his Vaquero Grande in the washer and dryer with some slacks. Would the handles warp? Would the AUS-8 rust?

Person without a Sharpmaker, Lansky CS crock stick, or a steel trying to sharpen a fully serrated CS blade without giving up and snapping blade.

Person accidentally dropping stainless stag-handled Trailmaster from thirty feet onto concrete driveway. Is knife tough enough to keep person from being suicidally depressed.

Left-handed person buying Voyager and finding out he could have bought an ambidextrous Spyderco Native with S30V or VG-10 Endura or Delica for just a few bucks more. Will vein show on his forehead?

The video is worth watching for entertainment value. It IS rather cool.

If you're a fan of Cold Steel you'll probably like it more.

It's OK. I just see CS as tools ONLY. None of them have any asthetic value and they're not very elegent.

If you're looking for a hard-working tool at a decent price they'd probably be one of the best for you.

I, personally, like something that will work equally hard with a little bit of style and elegance as well.

In my opinion, Cold Steel is the Glock of knives. No nonsense, no frills, not very precision or pretty but will do the job well if that's all you're looking for. Most gun afficionados appreciate the Glock and have one, but they also have a 1911, a Browning Hi-Power, a Colt SA, and a few others because they're better guns and the Glock wouldn't be their favorite. See?

it's being a long time since i have had a good laugh watching a few threads on a knifeforum. talking 'bout the CS-proof video gets me a smile on my face everytime, and then hearing you guys talk about it makes me laugh real bad....:D. it's really kinda absurd isn't it?

CS-dude Thompson is kind of weird fellow too, i never saw the vid but am getting more and more interested in seeing some of those knives being put to the test. problem is though, i ain't gonne find that vid in The Netherlands, where i live.

haha!........knife-porn........haha!

i hardly can stop me from laughing!........

The only video I want to see from Coldsteel is a video where they're all gathered around working on redesigning their POS ultralock so that it does not come apart. Complete and udder POS, none worse. Just my opinion, it's ok if you have yours too. dtsoll:)
