i was reading about the cat, and it said that it was now shipped with a metal retaining ring. what does this mean? is it perminatly in the knife. can it be taken off/out? if you can help me out id be very appreciative. thanks in advance

You can take ANY ring out of a knife if you really want.

They put the ring on it because of some law in California regarding non metalic knives. It's located in a hole in the butt of the knife and is a ring much like a keychain dealy. But yes you can take it off. With wire cutters.
