Here's a question for all you Cold Steel afficianados: Did Cold Steel make 2 thicknesses of the Carbon V Master Hunter? I just traded for one, and the blade seems a lot thicker than one I used to have. This one seems to be 3/16", but I believe my old one was closer to 1/8". Is my memory just slipping? I could swear my old MH blade was noticeably thinner than the F1 I had at the time. It came with a concealex sheath, so it couldn't have been that old. My current MH came with a nylon sheath, if that helps to place it on the Master Hunter continuum. Any insight would be appreciated. Longbeachguy, I know you have a few Master Hunters. What's your take?

I have an original MH from the first year issue. Mine is 3/16" thick at the ricasso and has a really nice distal taper towards the tip. More so than other's I have owned in later years. The taper thing I am talking about. keepem sharp

The earlier ones were thicker; current Master Hunters... or at least the last ones in Carbon V (much lamented) had a much more distinct distal taper. Probably better cutters, and I wouldn't worry about the difference. I used mine to field dress, skin and butcher four caribou, and only had to touch it up once or twice in the process. Carbon V is tough stuff as heat-treated by CS, IMHO. The Master Hunter is a classic, or was, in Carbon V. As far as the current version, I hope CS goes back to a decent, well heat-treated, high carbon steel. They can stuff the stainless steel varieties.
