I love this thing. What do you guys think?

I think I'll hold out for a Randall. If you're going to pay the price, why not get the best?

Use it a bit and tell us how it performs.

How much are they in N.Z.?

You can find them for around $120-$140 U.S here. Not a bad price for a very faithful rendition of a Randall Number 1, IMHO.

Blade steel is AUS8 and super scary sharp from the factory.

I think I'll hold out for a Randall.

For 52 months?

Of course, I'd rather have a Randall, but in the meantime...

I almost doubled my three year post count in this thread alone. Going back into hiding now.

Should be a robust knife, and you'll probably be more willing to beat on it that you would a Randall. AUS-8 is a very solid steel choice for a work knife, and I honestly don't think the 440B that Randall uses (when they do stainless) would be much superior, regardless of any mysterioso heat treating processes. In fact, for most use, I'd think that the Cold Steel's 57-59RC range would be superior, as Randall runs a little softer (or did last time I checked).

Try it out! :D

It is a classic knife no matter how you cut it. They are as a good rendition as you will find anywhere. keepem sharp

They're not expensive... about 130 from a discounter.
The recent run of sheaths are horrible and floppy so I ended up ordering a few from Sullivan Holster Shop in Tampa Florida. They make the OEM sheaths for Randall. I took a R1 to the Dominican Republic and left it with a horseback Mountain Trail guide and he uses it for almost everything. I took one into the jungles in Taiwan and it worked great there as well.
