Why is no one talking about the CS Ranch Boss traditional stockman folder?

My guess is because of the price. It's a nice looking knife, and it's my favorite size for the Stockman pattern, but IMHO it is priced a little high...
Yeah, I know it has S35V blades, but I just don't see it... Maybe if we knew who makes them, that would help justify the price, but if it is a production knife,
that will be mass produced, I don't think it is going to sell well. I've been wrong before though :D

The other thing I think may be an issue is, it is such a huge leap from what we normally think of, when we think CS...

Yep. Price, limited availability (run of only 600), and departure from CS's normal fare (at least over the past decade) all combine to make this one a niche knife. I think most people who are going to plunk down that sort of cash on a user slip joint are more likely to go with an established slip joint maker. I'm thinking most of these will end up with slip joint collectors who want to have one of everything slip joint related.

3 main reasons. 1)It's a limited piece run, so a lot of people simply can't get them even if they want to, the run was only like 600 pieces IIRC. 2)A lot of people won't want to pay the price, it's a bit more than many of Cold Steel's offerings, so it may be a little pricier than a lot of CS fans are accustomed to paying. 3)It's a slipjoint. Slipjoints are kinda a niche market among the general knife buyers.

I guess you could call them a niche market, but it is still a big market. Newer companies like GEC have proven there definitely is a market, and even Case continues to expand its offerings.
If this knife is a quality piece, and was offered by one of the known makers here, it would probably have a much better chance of selling at the price they are trying to get out of it. Another example would be the Case/Bose knives... Those were offered with upgraded steel at similar pricing, and sold very well. But they also have a famous and well liked makers name attached to them.
I'm still curious who makes these for CS.

I bet it's Queen. A Queen equivalent in D2 with brass liners runs a little over $100. For an exclusive with nickel silver liners and S35V the street price of around $190 seems reasonable, but maybe out of reach. This is one of those knives I'll probably pass on, but will probably regret it later.

Even though they only made 600 pieces they're still easy to find for $169-$190. If Case made the same knife as one of their Boss colabs with 154cm steel they would rip you for $300 plus. I'm sure it's a nice knife but I think the traditional Stockman collector already has a favorite company or two. The CS regular buyers aren't into small pocket knives. Besides PITA would get real mad if Lynn T. was cutting up little piggies with it.

I'm pretty sure the knives are made by Queen Cutlery

I love that knife and was so excited when I saw my first picture of it. Then I saw the price. No way Jose.

Really nice knife, checked it out the other day.Nice fit ,finish and blade steel. Its just that it is overpriced a little, for sheeple tasks I use victorinox anyways....CS are the best when you need hard use all around folder and cant carry fixed blade.:).

I'd already have one if it were reasonably priced, but then, considering the materials and the fact that it's a limited run, I suppose it is. I'm certain the price is what dampens what would otherwise be explosive enthusiasm for it.

I'll probably end up buying a Lucky and be totally cool with just that.

Been a few years since anyone commented on this thread. I am one of the foolish 600 to buy one of these, I have #8? Can't remember if it was #8 or #83, but I have one. I look at the prices that are being asked for them now and am a bit disappointed. Happy to see the lowest price that one is offered at being more than a 100% increase, but for a mint condition limited edition made in the USA Quality Knife, I had expected something more like 300% in seven years. I am going to hold on to mine, hoping that with time the values will start to climb exponentially like most other Mint Condition Quality USA made folders..... I think that the real problem with the increase in value with these is 2 fold. 1) These did not sell out immediately, due to the stepping away from CS's traditional market with this offering, and are still available from commercial suppliers, even though they are 2nd hand retailers, CS sold out fairly quickly, & 2) No one bought one of these and actually carried it, so the original 600 that were sold are all still in Mint Condition and New In The Box, which means that they aren't truly scarce..... Yet. .....We'll see.

Give it some time. Now that Lynn Thompson is no longer at the helm, the nostalgia factor is kicking in, so we should start seeing some serious price increases on older Cold Steel knives. It could well be happening already. I haven't priced any older CS stuff in a while, so I'm out of the loop right now.
