Cold Steel Recon 1 CTS-XHP fake question

Do CS boxes ever come with a sticker over the printed UPC on the box? The sticker UPC has the correct 705442012368, but the box seems to have 705442008408 (if I can read it correctly through the sticker). The logos on both sides of the blades match the CS site and by all accounts it looks like the real deal except for the sticker, so I wanted to post a note and ask. I purchased it for a really good price, but not through a reputable dealer.

The covered UPC is for the AUS-8A version of the knife. Probably re-using an old box with new UPC for XHP model. If the black finish is reflective it's XHP, if it's thick matte paint it's AUS-8A.

It's hard to tell because there is a bit of grease or oil on the blade.

They changed the logo too. The aus 8s have cold and steel written on the same plane.

It looks like an original to my eyes.

It has the new logo that was introduced in 2015 too.

Most likely they put the sticker on the box so that they could use up the old supply before the new ones arrived.

Knife looks good to me as well. I just remembered I may also have some boxes like that, went to check and my American Lawman box also had stickers on it to reflect the XHP update.

Looks legit to me too. The coating is hard to fake. the logo is legit too. Check the blade tang that contacts the lockbar, it should also be coated as well.

Thank you for the replies. 99.99% of the time I buy from a sponsor or other reputable dealer, but it was too good to pass up. I put it next to my AUS8 Recon 1 and noticed that the lockbar was coated on the new one. I couldn't notice a difference at all between them outside of a UPC sticker over the printed one on the box.

The only other difference is the XHP Recon doesn't snap shut the way the AUS8 does.

the box issue is common, my new CTS-BD1 Rajah II and AK47 in CTS-XHP came with stickers put on older boxes, just new sticker over the old one, but they are the real deal.
CS recycles paper and cardboard too, not only the meat they cut in their PROOF videos :D

not that it applies here...but the first xhp recons had no labeling on the blade of the steel. you can tell the difference between the aus8 and first xhps by the coating change. it's obvious. the box had a sticker on it saying and i am paraphrasing that lynn looked it over and it's good quality, with the xhp deal on the sticker. just stating this for future google users looking for this topic as your post will come up in a google search on this.

Thank you for your inquiry.

Yes, from time to time we will use a box with an outdated UPC, and put a sticker with the current UPC over the old one. This is done when we have an abundance of boxes for a particular model with old UPCs.

That makes sense. I thank you and the others who took the time to answer my question. This is the first (and probably last time) I buy a CS offering from a seller I'm not familiar with, but it's nice to know I got lucky and ended up with something genuine.

Thanks again!
