hello, the other day I was installing a light cover and i dropped my knife on the wood floor. When I picked up the knife I noticed my blade was chipped which I thought was strange because the flooring is definitely not stronger than my steel blade. I have dropped other knives around my house but it seems the recon 1 chipped way easier than any of my other knives. Is this a normal thing with cold steels heat treat or is s35vn just prone to chipping.

Are you talking about the edge as what chipped on the blade? Any decent steel can chip at the edge dropping on wood. Height, type of wood, edge angle, etc., matters, but still.

It happens. I imagine it's a small chip and will sharpen out.

Edge apex are very small, and with steels that are hardened for knife blades with edge holding as the goal, chips are inevitable.

You were using the knife somehow when installing a light cover. Any chance it got chipped unnoticed before you dropped it?
