greetings all,
Does anybody know if Cold Steel made/makes a RECON 1 folder with scales other than G-10? I looked at one at a flea market marked "CTS-XHP". It sure didn't feel like any G-10 I've ever seen. More like a synthetic Something just didn't feel right but honestly, I haven't looked at any current Cold Steel's lately. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks much and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

As far as I am aware Recon 1 were always G-10 including the earlier CTS-XHP model. The Minis are GRN and the tri-ad ones are polymer.

It is possible that what you are referring to is this:

Full size Tri-Ad Recon 1’s have always had G10. They switched to a less aggressive texture in recent years. The earliest production gen 1 Recon 1’s with axis style locks did have FRN handles.

Mini Recon 1’s had G10 when they offered them in AUS8 and XHP before being briefly discontinued. They were brought back in AUS10 and glass reinforced nylon handles.

Micro Recon 1’s used to come in AUS8, now in 4034. All have Griv-Ex fiberglass reinforced plastic.

I’d be weary of buying XHP marked Recon 1’s at a flea market, as there are many counterfeit XHP marked Recon 1’s. Even the counterfeits have G10 handles, though.

Gen 1 Recon 1's (axis type lock) had a FRN and stainless liner, then gen 2 (still axis type lock) introduced G10.
The gen 3 (Triad lock) kept the G10 but drew criticism for rough texturing. It has now changed with the S35VN, with a softer texture.

Forgot about gen 1 axis types, will edit my info.
