Cold Steel Recon 1 Tanto w/ Ultra-Lock- to keep or not to keep

I have a Recon 1 Tanto, the older version with the Ultra-Lock. I like the knife, but I find myself thinking about trading it off. I think I'm just attached to it because it's no longer made. Would it be a mistake to part with this? I do like the lock, but it doesn't offer anything that I couldn't get from a BM Axis lock. Plus there are a few knives out there I want, and I'm trying not to spend quite so much out of pocket. It's getting to be a pretty expensive hobby.

It's completely up to you and your situation. You probably won't get a ton of money for it, especially if it is used. I'd say keep it.

I definitely suggest keeping it. The older tanto is in high demand and selling for 2x-3x what you could get for one before it was discontinued. I expect it to only increase in value. I had regrettably sold mine a couple of years ago. I urge you to not make the same mistake. ;) ... but if you do want to sell it, you'll at least be cashing in on a good investment.

My advice, trade to me ;) There's a big demand for the oldies, personally I prefer the lines on the old one :D If you decide to get rid of her, lemme know.

Keep it. Always add to your collection, never subtract.

Also, if you have never owned a real Benchmade Axis lock knife, the CS Ultra Lock doesn't hold a candle to the smoothness of the real thing. The tolerances are much better in my BM Axis' than my CS Ultra's. Can't even compare the two except for looks, and general concept.

As people move on with this hobby, many of them also move up. Others stay on the same level, but accumulate. So whatever suits you.
I have difficulty parting with my knives and often lack motivation. But on another hand I have got rid of many knives that I did not use or did not find particularly appealing - and do not have any regrets.
If you think this knife will get significantly more expensive any time in the future because of the different lock - I myself would not expect anything spectacular...

If you don't like it, get rid of it. If you do like it, by all means keep it!

It would definitely be a mistake to trade the knife off if you really like it, because it will likely be difficult to find a replacement in the future. Also, they're not worth much in the first place, so you wouldn't really benefit by trading it off.

Thanks guys. I decided to put a feeler out there to see what kind of trades I can get. I figure I can always keep it if I don't find what I'm looking for. If I keep it just for the chance of it appreciating, then I most likely won't want to use it, and I'm not really a collector. Plus since it is used, I think would any future collector value would be minimal. Guess we'll see what happens.
