Hey guys i change my mind to buy a hd tactical folder and i choose cold steel recon 1 (tanto non serrated) but i can only found the old model in my country (last model before tri-ad lock) with ultra lock.I heard good things from tri-ad locks strenght and i saw couple vids some folks get down a little tree.:)Well im not gonna get down trees but im gonna cut little woods from branches to burn and no big blade play after repeating this.Actually i like the ultra lock cus of its smooth opening but not sure about its strenght compared to tri-ad and other classic lock backs. Please inform me especially recon 1 users...

The "Ultra Lock" is a licensed copy of Benchmade's axis lock. It's one of the strongest locks out there; but Cold Steel's version doesn't operate as smoothly.

thanks for replies.Im gonna buy a fixed blade too but later i need money:)And i have a question. Some guys compare the endura with cs ak-47 and recon 1 and im not sure endura can handle same strees.Maybe im wrong...

the endura can handle a lot , no problem, and is also easier to carry around, lighter, slimmer, also has better steel
maybe the lock is not that strong, as compared to a recon 1, but is strong enough, believe me.
nevertheless, the recon 1 is a great knife also

Thanks for info m8.Well endura is more cheap there but i like the recon 1 so im gonna buy it i will tell my toughs about it on saturday..also love the ak-47 blade opens when pull it out of ur pocket but not in stock :grumpy:.is it possible to mod recon 1 like this ?:D

For what its worth here is a comment posted by Sal Glesser owner of Spyderco knives (they test their knives using a machine and this can be researched further)

One can modify any knife to open as one draws it from the pocket. It was patented by Ernest Emerson (Emerson knives) as the wave and Andrew Demko holds the patent for the current feature that doubles as a thumb opener as seen on Cold Steel knives. Andrew also invented the Tri-Ad lock.

I recall the old CS videos (before the Tri-ad locks ones) that showed a guy doing pull-ups on Recon 1's with the ultra lock. The only reason they did away with it was b/c of the pattent was borrowed from Benchmade or something like that and was too expensive to re-up (I think). I can't imagine what you are going to do with it that you would think the lock would fail. If so, you should get that fixed blade right quick.

I decided to buy recon 1 after that video actually impressed me so much.:DI started to buy knives new so i can say im new to to knife world.I want a strong lock and no big blade play cus i have bad experiences with cheap knifes.:D But now i know my meadowlark is stronger then them.

Do not use a folding knife for a task that would call for a fixed blade or a hatchet.
/disembodied voice of common sense

No im not gonna use it for task that need a fixed blade of course. The knife prices are x2 than U.S.A so i want alot from what i paid. Can use it for a long time ,durable and cool looking too.
