So watching Deadliest Warrior SEaL Vs. Israeli Commando episode they had the SEaL guys using this Cold Steel folder. Let's not get into that debate here lol. As you can see by the pic that the tip broke in his barrage of stabbing. Just wondering if anyone has/had this knife and what have you, or do you use it for?

AUS-8, personally I find to remind me of aluminum, rolls and dulls easily for my tastes/uses.

Would love to hear some opinions from the more experienced users regarding this blade.

There is no universal treatment of AUS 8, every company that uses it does a different heat treat on the steel. Saying it's like aluminum is paiting with too broad a brush. What knife did you use that had the steel in question and what were you cutting that made you think it was like aluminum?

I have a couple CS folders and a fixed blade and they are impressive in every regard from ergonomics, edge holding, and fit and finish. The knife in the video is the older model with th Ultra lock, similar to the Axis lock by Benchmade. I much prefer the newer models with the Triad lock, it's about as indestructible as you can get for under $60.

I have the newer model with Triad Lock, IMO it's an excellent, heavy duty folder for its price. Cold Steel's heat treat on the Aus 8 steel is also better than for example, the Ontario RAT-1. I came to this conclusion based on a side by side cutting test I did this past weekend (heavy stock cart boards, 200 cuts each, with & against the grain, then repeated the paper cut test to measure edge retention).

IIRC, I remember hearing that what had happened was that the tip stabbed into the steel post supporting the ballistic body and snapped off.

Watching that episode it surely went into the steel post in the dummy. I have had no problems with my cold steel AUS8 ,it holds an edge pretty well and it can get crazy sharp ,I would say it is one of the easiest to sharpen stainless steels around. It is no "super steel" but it does pretty well and with it being so easy to sharpen it works great for an everyday user.

Boker Trance. I cut a lot of boxes, packaging tape, and some CAT-5 cables from time to time. I found that the Trance almost needed to be sharpened daily. No, I don't know how many boxes i cut, or at what angle and all of the other variables that some will request. Bottom line, in my life, under my working and using conditions, for that particular knife with that particular steel, rolling and rapid dulling were prevalent.

I don't see it hitting any post or pole. It looks as if the dummy is attached to a flat, steel platform supported by a pole to me.

Not getting into that either.

I just wanted to know about that specific knife and thanks for those of you who replied regarding it.

I have an older one. My wife & daughter got it for me, for my 45th birthday. I have used it for all sorts of stuff. It took me a while to get a good edge, but now that i do, it cuts like no tomorrow. Mine is 25 degree on each side, that was the ticket for me. I have scraped gaskets off metal, done a ton of cardboard, cut straps, even cut 2 metal bands with it once & i have also batoned firewood kindleing with it. It did loosen up when i batoned with it. So i went to HF & bought 2 small torx/screwdriver kits for $7 each. It is now as tight as can be. I like it a lot. I wish Becker would make a HD, made in the USA folder though.
