Cold Steel Recon adjustment problem

I have a friend that has a Cold Steel Recon. He said he tightened the pivot to eliminate blade play and now the lock doesn't work properly. He tried loosening the pivot back, but now it is hit or miss to whether the lock engages. He describes it as the locking pin not engaging. Any ideas as to what may be the problem or suggestions on adjustment or fixing the issue?

The knife has to come apart, the springs are either misaligned or broken. Tell him just be careful and not lose any parts. Alternative choice send it to STR or someone to take care of it or even cold steel.

edit. could also try some spray lube and tap on the knife to get the springs to go back where they should be, best practice is to get some new springs.

I find that the Recon 1 is not really "take apartable".
