If this means anything to anyone, in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjfnRfyHAs4
Nutnfancy explains at 16:08 that he used a recon tanto to baton a large piece of wood and it did not break, but then later explains that he likes the clip point better. However, it seems that he only batoned to test the Recon 1's tri-ad lock, not the tanto blade version itself. Watch for yourself and decide.

Anyway, which would you say is better for general EDC use, and VERY LITTLE HEAVY DUTY work.

Clip point blades are way more versatile than tanto blades for EDC use, IMO. The one EDC need that tantos excel at is scraping stuff off of smooth flat surfaces, like labels off glass.

I don't really like tantos, no belly to slice with and sharpening a tanto point knife is like sharpening two knives.

Tanto blade shape is very tough, especially for piercing. Its more for combat. However it is a sob when sharpening

Rule #1 never baton a folder.

Buy the one you like most, they are very tough knives. My personal choice would be the clip point.

honestly, I've never seen much of a difference in utility by a tanto blade and a normal point.
I know that in theory there probably is some different, but in the real world they preform about the same for me. They kinda cuts stuff, that needs to be cut.

With a tanto for EDC, you end up using almost exclusively the corner of the cutting surface where the two edges meet. I can't describe it, but maybe you know what I'm talking about. This concentrates all of the wear and the sharpening right on that point. With a clip point, the wear (and therefore sharpening) are spread out along more of the cutting surface.

This is not the end of the world, but just something to think about. As a general rule, I find clip points more useful than tantos. Unless I need to make a hole in a car hood, which hasn't happened yet.

As for batoning with a folder, Nutn was doing it to demonstrate how robust that tri-ad lock is. Which it did. Thats an impressive lock.
