Too heavy, too short. Excellent steel ( i hit in concrete "accidentally" few times, tip survives, few teeth and nothing else, really great!). But too heavy. Blade has great shape but it doesn't to be so tick. It can't be axe, it can't be machete, than can be thinner. To short for machete, to heavy for knife. Sheath is OK for every civilian use.

Well, it depends on what one is using it for. Most knives are not used as axes or machetes, though they can be pressed into such duty in extreme circumstances. Like anything else, the Recon Scout has its fans and its critics. I'd rather have the full carbon steel models than the new stainless ones, but it is strong and fairly durable. Still, it wouldn't be my first choice of a fixed blade, either. On the other hand, if someone gave me one, I wouldn't get rid of it.

I have SK-5 model PRC production and quality for the money is excellent but big weight in blade make handling with a knife difficult. For example, Gurkha kukri is allmost twice longer, much heavier but because of great balance feel's like you have regular knife in hand. 5mm thickness on great blade like RS is enough for my opinion, only to reduce weigt. With little thinly blade this knife would be still one of strongest knives in the world.

One mayor thing about RC, when you cut branches or small trunks, can slip over it. In my opinion, this is exactly because of to heavy blade witch is difficult to control.
