I'm sure reviews have been done on this series. Could someone point me in the right direction to find them? I'm looking for a decent survival knife that is somewhere above cheap (like the Glock 81) and the way pricey (above a couple of hundred $$) and I thought that the Cold Steel recon series is a good choice. I'm open to suggestions...

That was a good review, and an interesting site too.

I have the Recon w/ spear point and combo edge, and really like it. Very strong and clean build, easy open action, locks up very solid, with just a little time easy to open and close single hand very quickly. And it came sharp as hell. Very good value IMO.

I prefer the spear or clip point, IMO the tanto is not a true tanto, if you look at it the point is formed not with a single angle coming from the edge back to the point, but with another angle from the back also, this back edge is unsharpened, to me this seems like trying to make a tanto-looking point without the strength or penetration ability the tanto is noted for.

I have been carrying the Cold Steel Voyager XL with the 5 inch blade for several years now... That sucker is Super Tough! I have used it to cut Darn near Everything. The extra long Handle and Blade Makes for an Excellent Chopping tool as well. It will slash through A water bottle with the best of the Bowies and I have even tested it out on a phone book... One hard chop will go about three inches into it when its standing on its end.
I never worry about the lock either... when its open, it might as well be a fixed blade.
All for about $60.
Thats it on the left...

I just got a new Recon and I was curious about something. How do you sharpen the itty bitty spaces in between the larger serrated teeth? I have a tool to sharpen the large “teeth” but not the small ones.

Man, you guys are awesome! Thank you!
Any thoughts on the fixed-blade recon knives?
