Does anyone have any experience in using Cold Steel's Recon Tanto in both Carbon V and AUS8? I only have Carbon V and many people don't really want the stainless version, but I wondered how much actual difference there was and, if so, where is the performance difference most noticeable?

I imagine the edge holding would be superior with the Carbon V. Some consider it just a sharpened pry bar, but I've had my knife grow on me a bit.

I guess the aus-8 version will be a little less tough and more corrosion resistant.

I had own 3 recon tanto in carbon V, i gave two of them to my really hard user friend & i can give you a warranty this is a strong knife
you can pry open a house door with this knife.
The only problem...you will have difficulty for cutting ropes & this kind of material.
the geometry of the edge is simply inadequate for a knife this is the reason why some people call this a sharpened pry-bar.
But the recon tanto is not bad for light chopping, diggin, roots cutting, car fuel line cutting, car hood stabbing lol this is a tactical sabotage knife.

If i would go make trouble somewhere this is the knife i would take with me.
