Hey guys, I decided to spice up the old collection this last week...I read a tutorial on handle wraps, and was inspired.
I have always been a big fan of the Cold Steel Trailmaster, Recon Scout Bowie and the Master Hunter. BUT, the handles, although functional, never really got my blood pumping.
Anyways, long story short..I started in, and cut off some Kraton, and started laminating leather with hi impact epoxy..then went out and found a couple of different cords.
The thin cord, that is dyed black, is cotton.
The thicker more "organic" cord, is hemp.
I used the hemp on my SanMai Recon scout and then dyed it a bit darker...I like it.
I REALLY like the 2 master hunters..man, they feel really good in hand.
Well, what do you all think. Now its time to go use them!

I liked this CARBONV Master Hunter so much, I made this sheath for it..This one will be with me for the long haul.

Here's the Recon Scout..I like this one for a "One knife" tool. Does it all very well. The sheath is "Savage Made"

Here are the 2 Master Hunters, side by side. I got more creative on the SanMai one..it has the black cotton wrap. They are both super grippy and comfortable.

Those look great! I'm especially digging the Master hunter, that flat out rocks

Thanks Tknife. I like it alot...I am thinking I need a Falkniven F1 or H1 now...that would be fun to do!

That would be killer! Sounds like a new addiction :D

It is!! The next victim is an old beater HI Super CAK, that has been needing some love...I just have to figure out how to do it..LOL

I picked up a few factory second knives at the Cold Steel parking lot sale this year, to clean up and rehandle. I'm in the process of rehandling a trailmaster and recon scout with micarta. I have another trailmaster sitting aside that I'm tempted to try this method or something similar. Thanks for posting what the final product looks like.

Give it a shot, its not SUPER hard to do. The big thing is getting the right amount of loops at the butt. Only so much cord can fit through the hole at the end.

That is really nice looking:thumbup:

I think i got some deet or something on my kraton handled TM or it could be just getting old (10 years +) but it has really loosened up on me and is leaking a black residue at the guard area. I really need to learn how to do something like that to keep it in service.

Great mods on ur CS blades. I'm loving that Trailmaster. Do you have a link for that tutorial on handle wraps? Thanks

Wow..those turned out nice ! I like the TrailMaster...when I find a good deal on one I'm gonna get myself one !

Can't see any pics and don't have the time to figure out why now. The Master Hunter is on my shortlist of all time favorite knives though.

ditto on that, any link to the tutorial???

I did a google search on "hemp wrapped handles" and found the tutorial, I think David did it for Ramanon or KF, I dont remember. As far as the link, I will see what I can do.

I have been told that David and Rick have been doing their own thing for a while...Who started doing wrapped handles first, doesnt really matter, because neither of these 2 fantastic knife makers have anything to do with the "Invention" of wrapping handles...that goes farther back a couple of years.

I will say, the first "wrapped" handle with leather under it...I held, was one of Ricks. I instantly loved it. So Rick has a hand in ME trying this out as well. He's just to lazy to do a tutorial is all. LOL

You and I both! The master hunter is simple and functional. I like that in a knife.

Thanks for the search terms, I found it - http://www.ramanon.com/forum/showthread.php?83952-How-to-do-my-tribal-handle-wrap

I love the trailmaster blade and hated the look of the handle. Beautiful job thanks again
