Can anyone comment on CS Swiss Army copy. Tools, type of steel, quality, etc.? I know I saw it in one of the old CS catalogs, but can't find it. Thanks

Ichor-- I don't have one of these, but from what I remember seeing in the Cold Steel catalog, they looked like cheap knock-offs. Genuine Victorinox (or if you must, Wenger) knives are so affordable, and at least for Victorinox, of such high quality, that it doesn't seem worth it to purchase cheap, and probably inferior, copies.

But, do you know anything about the knife? Have you handled one? Seen one? So far I've gotten answers from someone who doesn't like Lynn Thompson (and mayber CS) and someone who saw a picture and thought it looked like a "cheap knockoff". Thanks for taking the time to answer, guys, but does anyone actually have one of these or, at least, can answer my original questions?:p

Ichor, I have quite a bit in Cold Steel, and have their latest catalog and don't see a Swiss Army of any type for sale. Also I did not see this on their web site.

Contrary to many people (most of whom don't seem to own much CS) I think their folding knives are excellent. Their larger blades are OK too for wall hangers or nice repros, but their folding knives in AUS-8 I think are outstanding for the price, as are some of their larger fixed blade offerings. Good everyday carry knives. I have a Gunsite 5" folder (large voyager tanto) which is the single sharpest out of the box knife I have ever owned. It's nice when a company treats you like an adult. I also have a 1989 3" folding Tanto in San Mai III which is just a beautiful piece of work and has an incredibly tough blade.

I'll admit that Thompson can come across as quite a blowhard, and that some of his 420C "zero sub-quenched" stuff is pretty junky, but that doesn't make everything he makes junk, and for that matter none of the folders use 420, only some of the larger fixed blades CS is discontinuing.

I was saving up for a very nice Tai Pan and a Big Bear Classic subhilt from CS when I happened upon the HI website and Bladeforums two months ago and got trapped by these Cantina guys and held against my will. I haven't spent a dime on anything other than Khuks since that fateful day! (sigh):)

Good luck in finding the Swiss Army that you want, but I don't think CS has it anymore.

Regards,

Svashtar

You have been assimilated. Resistence is futile.

all my wengers sissors are falling apart for some reason and they are un used compared to my pre-stolen Vx

A guy was selling them at a Gun Show I went to last year, at five for $30.00. I thought that was overpriced myself. Pretty much like the ones you used to get as "Free Gifts" with luggage and such. Cheapest plastic scales they could find, and semi-sharp pot metal blades. Unless it's a gift for someone you don't really like, I'd say skip it. :barf:
