traded off a blade at a gun show for a Cold Steel SanMai III folder...8.25" OAL, 3.5" blade, back lock ...nice tight tactical cordura sheath...looks bran'spankin new.

Q's - when were these made...? and what are they worth...?

that edge is N A S T Y sharp :D

THANKS!!!

San Mai is a laminated blade, AUS8 core, I believe; not sure what the side panels are. Darned tough though, hold a great edge, IMHO. I believe these are now out of production. They were first made five or more years ago. Dang good knives.

The outer panels of that San Mai sandwich are 420J2. About the only real cutlery use this steel has IMO.
I have the lg. clip point model. The Kraton scales have swollen to the point the knife is very difficult to open. I've never heard of this happening before, but there it is. The knife has been in storage for the last 4 years or so in it's sheath. That might have something to do with it.

Hey, 420J2 makes for some pretty ok liners and handles :)

I had one of those about a year ago. They came in small, medium, and large. I know that they are out of production, but they are very cool. I am pretty positive the cutting edge is aus-8 and the outter edge is 420. Try e-mailing Lynn Thompson. I bet you get a better answer from him, as he is the owner of Cold Steel. I know that when I traded mine I went pretty fast, so there is still a market for them out there. If they came back with that knife using G-10 and a pocket clip, and of course a thumb stud instead of a nail nick, I would jump on it. Good luck with that little jem.

That would be sweet...san mai, g-10, and a stud. I've always been impressed with Cold Steel's knives, I would buy one in a second.

I had one of the large one's several years ago. But I can't remember the name!
Great little pocket knife, I would love another folder with that steel!
