Hi Guys,

Do anyone know a knife from Cold Steel, called Scalping Knife ?
What can you tell me about it ? Can anybody help me find some store on the net to buy it ?

Thanks in advance,

Andre Tiba - Brazil

Andre, I don't know if Cold Steel ever sold a knife by that name, or just mentioned that they were sometimes called that, but it sounds like one of the "trade knives" they carried at one time. They were reproductions of early American frontier knives, and you could buy the blade alone (which is how they were shipped to the colonies originally) or you could get them with simple wooden handle scales.

CS themselves haven't had them for a long time, but Ragnar carries a very similar product line under Traditional Knives. Most of the knives in the second section would probably qualify as "scalpers", although that was never their regular purpose.

You maybe looking for what's called Red River Knives, briefly made by Cold Steel. Cold Steel made these knives after the Green River Knife patterns. http://www.oldjimbo.com/survival/rr.html Cold Steel has since replaced these knives with their Bushman series. However, these knives can still be found under the name Green River Knives. The model is called Hunter.

I think the actual "Scalper" was a large French Trade knife style that CS offered in a series concurrent with the Red Rivers called the "Hudson Bay Knives." Somewhere, deep in my catacombs, I have one or two of these--I think. Probably time to do a little catacomb searching when even I don't know what's there. ;)
It's been 5 or 6 years since CS offered them.
