Cold Steel Scimitar, how is it?

I have had one for about two years now. I travel a lot for work and carry when I go jogging. I like it because you can use the pommel end to strike the bum’s and aggressive pan handlers if you need to As far as the blade goes it gets scary sharp I don’t use it for everyday cutting so I have no advise for that. I sharpen it up and then strop it a few strokes and there you go a four inch scalpel.

 You need to find a new place to jog.

from what i heard the scimitar aint that good, quickly developes blade play, ant the tip is fragile (well, by its nature)
from what i heard...so
moose1132, seems to me that you have a hard time choosing that folder, recon, griptilian, scimitar...what next ? :D

Good point but sometimes I can’t choose where I can run, *L*. I haven’t tested the point on hard task but for what it was designed for is cutting and stabbing meat I think it will do just fine. I keep a smaller edc for working task.

I think the Scimitar is a solid liner lock knife with Torx construction and a very substantial pivot pin.
Nicely made, in Japan.
Lockup on both of mine (1 PE, 1 SE) is rock solid.

I remember reading Bill Bagwell carried a CS Scimitar as one of several EDC knives. That to me says something positive about it.

I bought one early on as I love the design.

I was using it for thrusting exercises into a phone book attached to a heavy bag (I suppose you could call it abuse) and while the liner lock was seriously deformed, it never disengaged. I sent it back with a full explanation of what I'd been doing and they sent me a new one as a replacement. It became my EDC, but as I practiced kinetic openings it developed really bad blade play. I still have that knife in my box but never really play with it as it rattles really badly. Never had a problem with the point though.

If the bloody thing wasn't so freakin' expensive I'd have another one, I just wouldn't mess with it knowing it's weaknesses.

Just curious, what makes you want another one if it clearly isn't suitable as an EDC?

I wouldn't strike with the pomel it's only plastic scewed to another peice of plastic,no metal liners on the end of it.It's only got a partial liner, not strong at all you can actually move it side to side with your hands, just junk I gave mine away because I got tired of thinking about how I wasted $100 dollars on that piece of garbage.:thumbdn:

The pommel on my Scimitar is not separated from the rest of the handle in any way whatsoever.
The handle is thick fiberglass reinforced nylon which ends in a pommel.

I didn't say it wasn't suitable as an EDC, that was all you.

I said that I had destroyed one that I had used as an EDC. I accomplished this by stabbing it repeatedly and at full power into a telephone book taped to a 70lb heavy bag. I was really impressed that the liner lock deformed but never disengaged. Then after CS replaced it, after I explained to them what clearly could be interpreted as abuse, I ruined the second one through constant practice in kinetic openings which resulted in an amount of blade play that I didn't want to feel.

Personally, I think the Scimitar is an excellent cut and thrust design and if I were to ever acquire another I would simply avoid those actions that I know would ruin the knife. And I think I would buy the black blade.

I like the design so much that I bought a Scimitar Spike which I've rigged for upside down carry in a simulation of a shoulder rig carry.

the scimitars are "ok" if ya like the design look at a emerson P-tac they are a lot better knife imho, albeit a more expensive knife, but they have a G10 vs FRN handle, better steel, a little slimmer/easier to carry edc, just a better knife.

but the scimitar, for the $$, isnt too bad, i havent heard anything really bad about them.

I pulled mine out of the drawer today and found that I had evidently been using it for practice because it still had duct tape residue on it. I ran it lightly over the Sharpmaker, about four strokes on each side it it shaves hair the length of the blade. I think I'll rotate it back into my user line for a while.
