Who(m) on this forum has had practical experience with this blade?
I particularly like that wicked curve & round pommel for use in a
self defense situation. ;) I don't have much experience with Cold Steel's serrations. Are they better or worse than, say Spyderco's?

Sir,

I do not have experience with the scimitar knife, but have carried a cold steel for 5 years and recently made the switch to Spyderco.

Without any qualification, Spyderco serrations are better. The difference is night and day.

Consider also the fact that CS refuses to sharpen any of their blades...and their serrations are so assinine that Lansky had to make a special dogbone to deal with them.

Allen, you might also like to look at the new CS Night Force, which is essentially an updated tactical version of their Scimitars.

I've got a lot of CS knives -- and a cane and a sjambok! -- and have been pretty well pleased with them. But Spyderco is a better product, and not always much more expensive, if at all.

If you want something exotic, see if you can find a Shabaria, which is a real favorite of mine.

However. If you go for CS, and you go for serrations, don't panic. There is a cheap and easy way to sharpen them. I've used it for years on a Vaquero Grande that takes a beating and a half in the woods.

All you have to do is steel the blade on the side opposite the serrations. This will straighten them up, and restore their cutting power practically to new.

I have a scimitar and i think it's a good knife. It's not small by any mean, but it's quie comfortable in the hand and not too btrusive in the pocket. The positioning of the clip makes it perfect to carry front IWB , it almost disappears.
The lockup of my scimitar is very good and solid and the opening is very smooth (you can flick it open in every possible way). The blade takes a scary edge (i have a plain one)and keeps it for a reasonable amount of time.(i have no hard use data to report, only lots of cardboard cutting.)
All in all it's a good knife; i don't think it's fair to compare directly CS product with Spydercos, since the two companies seem to have a different goals.Neverthless i can tell you thay i own both spydies and CS (heck, also SOGs,CRKTs,REKATs....someone stop my knifenutting bug, please!)and i am satisfied of both.
