:) I'm a very long time loyal customer of Cold Steel and you're still my favorite ," go to" .

But , the Cold Steel serrations are a major pet peeve for me . I have many of your knives with full serrations and lots of frustrations with them .:thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

When factory new , they are the best ...no question . But , on a " hard user" working knife they become dull and even bent at the fragile edge / tips .

Then you have a big problem . There is just no very good way to return the serrated edge back to factory fresh . Not that I know of .

Those tiny little serrations are just too dang small to conveniently sharpen with anything I've found . o_O

Yes , I'm very familiar with the little Lansky "dog bone " special CS sharpener . What an aggravation to actually use . Way too small and short to be efficient , IMO and experience .

I fervently wish that CS would start to offer a larger type serration that is DESIGNED for easy sharpening and thus would be actually useful in the real world of work . Not just a one use wonder !:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Or at least come out with your own sharpening system to more easily and efficiently sharpen your tiny serrations . ;)

I'm constantly embarrassed for CS because I can't recommend your serrated knifes for any real work . I have to go with Spyderco , to be honest . It shouldn't be that way ! :(

Thank you !

In your post I would replace the words "serrated knife" with "Secure-Ex Sheath". I am at least as embarrassed for them for that silliness.
Sharp edge and Secure-Ex Sheath are mutually exclusive.

I believe there is a thread here about available tools for sharpening the fine serrations. I will attempt to find it and will post if I do.

Never mind it was the "Dog Bone".

I'm not a Cold Steel hater by FAR !
Some of my very favorite folders are Cold Steel.
I'm not a fan of the serrated blades though I have a couple. The best thing they are good for is destroying flesh in a fight. Personally I'm all about plain edges.

I even tried to EDC a couple of the little Cold Steel Super Edge fixed blades and gave up because when I went to use the edge I had carefully sharpened it was dull from carrying it in my pocket in the Secure-Ex Sheath.
Pendleton Hunter in 3V same
Spike same
Secret Edge same
Mini Pendleton Hunter in 3v

. . . I could rant on and on.

PS : two of my favorite Cold Steel knives (folders of course so the edge stays sharp at least until I start using it) is the Large Voyager and the Ti Light IV ( I grind the latter full flat (I have a few of them) ) CTS-XHP natch'.

If the serration points are not damaged, they are easy to keep sharp with Spyderco sharpmaker rods.... if you bend or break a point.....I don't know how to fix them!!!

It is why I only own one CS knife with serrations.. and it is only a 1/2 serrated.....

I'm not a fan of the cold steel serrations either for what I use a knife for daily. sure like a full serrated knife though...... prefer spyderco type or style full serrations. full serrations are kinda rare outside of a few brands. be nice if cold steel had a different version of full serrations, but is what it is.......

I understand about the sheath problem , but you can mod the sheath or just buy an alternative , but the serrations are part of the knife . Unless you you reprofile and grind out to make a PE . But then why not just buy a PE to start with ?

Lansky makes a great sharpener specifically for our serrations. Alternatively, you can send the knife back to us and we'll re-sharpen it for you if it is too difficult.

We appreciate your input as a long time customer.
:) Thanks for the reply . What is the cost for you to sharpen and how would I arrange it ?

Yeah CS serrations are not the best except maybe at cutting flesh which isn't something most of us do. My only CS serrated knives are in a display case. They do look wicked.

:) I actually DO carry these fully serrated routinely , but only as a second knife reserved for emergency / SD use .

So kinda a PITA really . If you use them much , got to sharpen . :(

;) Maybe I'll send some to CS to see how they do with sharpening . Hope they have something better to use than that Lansky POS .

Arthritis killed my knife sharpening, sent 3 now to CS for sharpening and very happy with the result(2 with serrations). They even polished my brass San Mai I sent in for sharpening.

that's awesome. thanks for the heads up on this. I thought at one point y'all didnt sharpen serrations. guess I got that all wrong.

in case Lynn's paying attention still like to see a working cutting style all serration knife come out. seems to be a big hole for that in the industry...then again maybe there ain't enough of us to support filling that hole?

:) Me too ! I'd still like to have the option of a Cold Steel serration designed to be sharpened easily by the owner .:thumbsup::thumbsup:
