Cold Steel Shanghai Shadow v. Warhead

I really hated to see Cold Steel discontinue its Warhead. Not only was it wickedly sharp, it had superb balance and was light weight. Now I'm wondering how the Shanghai Shadow compares with the Warhead. The SS seems to be larger than it appears in photos, but for those of you who own one or who have examined it, how does it compare to the Warhead (below) in weight, balance and size?

Thanks!

The new Shanghai Shadows are quite nice. They are very well balanced daggers, and are great if you are familiar with Chinese ring dagger techniques. The handle scales appear to be from a very similar mold to the ones on the Warhead you pictured.

The scales on the Warhead are the same that are on the G.I. Tanto and the Shanghai Shadow. I like them more than the paracord wrap. I love the Warhead and believe it's the ultimate edged weapon. I wish Cold Steel would reintroduce it. It's one of the knives I have in my bugout bag and the balance is incredible.

The Shanghai Shadow also appears quite formidable, but you're not going to see me twirling it around my fingers. I'm afraid my thumb would drop to my feet if I ever attempted it!

The entire line of 1055 machetes and knives are a real bargain. I just wish CS would stop putting on those damn stickers. The only way I know to get rid of them is to burn them off with a candle. The Roman sword (Gladius) probably won't last long, but the Kukri and some of their other machetes are great. When I was a kid, I used a machete to clear Creeping Johnnies and other obnoxious weeds and wish I had some of the machetes available now.

Also the ring on the shanghai shadow has a weak point for throwers. That ring is were a lot of ringed throwers will fail first. But for everything else it is a very sturdy fighting style knife. You should remember that the Warhead has been sold in several different thicknesses and weights and steels over the years before it was retired.

I didn't know that about the Warhead. As for the ring on the Shanghai Shadow, I don't throw any of my knives though I should learn how. The Warhead is a huge knife but it's one reason it's so formidable. It's lightweight, too, and is sharp as the dickens. And though it's not a machete, per se, it's big enough to be used for clearing small areas of brush and vines. Again, I'm sorry to see it go. By the time CS discontinues something these days, it vanishes almost immediately. I reckon if you want something you ought to just go ahead and buy it!

All i know is my GI tanto is a lawt heavier than my cordwrapped shanghai shadow and therefore i trust it slightly more even with the shitty handle screws
