Cold Steel Slip Joints

Anyone care to comment on Cold Steel's Country Classics line of slip joints? http://www.coldsteel.com/cocl.html

There not bad from what I have seen, they are as good as any other knife made by Camillus, I am pretty sure that's who makes them for Cold Steel.

They are basically the same as Buck slipjoints also made by Camillus.

Two or three years ago Lynn Thompson gave me one of the 4" STOCKMAN knives to test, and test it we did. I carried it for most of that time and it performed superbly. All three blades had very sharp edges as they came from the plant and held those edges for quite a spell before I re-touched them. I cured the blades by spending a weekend pigging out on fresh tomatoes all sliced with the COLD STEEL pocketknife. This started turning the blades black which was my goal. I finished the curing by setting the knife blade down in a whiskey glass full of white vinegar which completed the turning of the blades to a coal black. After wiping the blades dry I rubbed in a tiny drop of Break Free into each blade. None of the blades have been cleaned since and none have ever rusted..
After all this I carried the knife daily for I'd guess two years and used it every day with every satisfaction. The blades take a very keen edge and hold it very well. All three blades seem equal in their quality and edge holding ability.
My wife won a COLD STEEL TRAPPER at a raffle a year ago the qualty of which out of the box seems the same as the STOCKMAN though I have not used it all.
I also have seen an advertisement for these from KNIVES PLUS and the prices on the entire line are quite reasonable in comparison to the prices I just saw on the COLD STEEL website.
One other thing: once the blades are cured the entire knife has a black appearence that looks for all the world like the knives my daddy and granddaddy used oh so many years ago. I like that!!!

I had thought that Buck now makes their own slipjoints, though Camillus made them in the past?

They may, I just read the history of Buck knives but it's a little dated so they may be making them themselves by know.

I'm not positive, but somebody will chime in eventually and let us know.

I do believe that Buck now makes their slipjoints in-house. The new designs are quite different from the old Camillus-made Bucks.

P.S.- You should do another thread on your top 10 fav. knives if they have changed. That thread was great reading.
