A few days ago I went to the Eastern Sportsman's Show in Harrisburg, PA. To put it short I had an excellent time as my my wife, my father and I went through the huge assortment of booths and activities. One newcomer to the show was Cold Steel. I go to this show every year and know when things change, many times I go several times in two weeks. Anywho I noticed there very large elaborate booth and setup and was excited to see what they brought. To my happiness they brough everything from there trainer line to swords of all types and many, many things were available for you to hold, touch, wield so to speak.

On my first go around I purchased an Lawman, city stick, spike hawk, etc and a few other knives. There prices were marked down reasonably and under what they have at there website. It was nice to hold many knives in there line and make observations.

As I made my way out my wife mentioned she wanted to buy me a knife. Back to CS booth we went and though the Spartan looked odd after holding it and holding it against other knives....I grew to really like it. At first I was turned off by its extreme recurve and agressive looks (aka heavily scalloped handles). However the more I held it the more I liked it and away we went.

After carrying it a few days now I am very impressed with its design and feel with a very nice pricepoint. Most places you can get it under $60 which isnt bad at all for a demko lock and Aus8 steel.

First thing I want to talk about is its size, now its not HUGE but its certainly not small and its a bit big for edc though I have been doing that with it. The next thing is its excentric handle shape. I really enjoy the handle shape very much and its very, very secure. It is not super versatile but its versatile enough to do many jobs with.
I would also like to point out that the scallops in the handle look a bit uncomfortable but to me they are nice and in the right spots, I dont have huge hands but mine fill the handle comfortably and through some light use I have not noticed any annoyances.

So far this is a very nice knife with decent steel and an excellent lock in a good price range. Would I prefer it in a more premium steel? Of course but Aus8 is not bad at all and through much of my zip tie, rop, cardboard testing it has stayed shaving sharp (would like to add it came very very sharp). If your into larger knives I would suggest taking a look at the Spartan, it might just work out for you. Any comments or questions are appreciated and I will be updating this as I use it a bit more.

In addition to my review I would like to comment on how it rides in the pocket. It is a somewhat thick knife and it's clip does not ride very low and does leave some handle exposed. In comparison to other knives like the military it may not dwarf it in overall length but in a length vs thickness comparison it certainly does. I would like to add more to this review at a later date after comparing it to similar built knives.

Nice review, I like the Spartan, the only problem I've found is that is is too long to fully seat in some of my pants pockets.
