The Spike has been around for awhile . But Cold Steel has introduced three other models. The price is ok anyone have any experience with these ? Looks like the handle would need some serious grip work .

I have one, Got it as a gift. The blade is zero ground at about a 30 degree angle. If you plan on cutting with it, buy a bottle of water, it will cut better. If you plan on stabbing with it (you know all those daily task when you say to yourself: "Man I wish I had something to stab this with"), it will be okay. The only problem of using it as a stabber is that there is no finger guard, and not much handle, therefore you are very likely to slip and slice your own hand. It is really only a neck knife. I don't ever carry mine, but it is kind of cool in a mall ninja sort of way.

P.S. The handle would need a lot of work, it comes with some heavy string glued to it and wrapped around the handle.

I bought the tanto version a few years back for work (popo). I wear it in my boot and secure it around my ankle with a leather shoestring. It would be used for a last ditch weapon. Piercing with it is great, but for any other use get something else.

It really is pretty much a spike, and not so much a knife. IMO, it's a strict stabber, with NO utility value. If that is waht you need, then it's great. If you want a knife, get somethig else.

I found this and the other post by Ironman to be very true, I have also had the handle wrap come loose from very little use. It does not cut overy well for me but the thing can stab....just like its name thats what its good at. To me its like a manufactured shank it is pretty neet to own and play with like alot of CS stuff.

The toughest chores I've trusted mine with were taking splinters out of my hand; it is a good penetrator. The sheath is decent, it retains the knife well but doesn't have the right hardware for any Tekloks or things like that. Hey, if you spent $10 on a Teklok, that would be about one third or one half the purchase price. It does sharpen easy---I figured if I was going to carry a shank, it was going to be f***ing SHARP! I keep mine in the bottom of my shaving kit to use as a splinter remover, to open up blister, and a host of other small things as that's all it's really good for. The handles are slippery, and as such I wouldn't carry it for EDC or trust it to stay in place in an SD application.

A novelty.

God bless you, America, and our men and women overseas.

A friend of mine got the scimitar, sharpened it and was cutting his sirloin steak at a family cook out . That particular knife model is working well for him . He rewrapped the handle with a boot lace very tightly , that was better .

It is a novelty as Steelscout30 says ,but interesting .

For splinters, I use a sewing or similar needle, they go for about $ 0.25 a piece. But if I ever need a significantly higher priced splinter picker that doubles as a shank, Cold Steel will earn some of my cash.

Zenheretic-

I bought the knife on a whim when I was less of a knife enthusiast and more of a young Scout who liked the idea of a neck knife for $20. Now that I have it, I'm stuck with it, so, yes, now it's an overpriced splinter-picker. It's the only overpriced sewing needle that will satisfactorily stab someone, on the bright side. "Don't mess with grandma, look at that needle! GASP!"

Sorry, in retrospect, my post is easily read as a putdown on you, which wasn't intended. You were the only one to voice a "less lethal" use for this specific "tool", so I focused on the alternative. I suppose I look down my big Italian nose at Cold Steel, but I wasn't intending to do so to you. :o

About two years ago, I also bought Spike and now, it's still made of 420 which cold steel subzero quenches. The sheath is well made but the steel is less desirable,in my opinion,I thought that cold steel's cyroquenching could improve 420 but I know better now.
The thing that bugs me is that the sheath's(1 1/16") slots are not long enough for someone to wear on a belt vertically.Am I wrong? What are the slots on the sheath for?
Presently this ice pick sits in my desk rotting away.
