Hey guys. So I just got the SR1 Lite. I also have many other Cold Steel models 20+ including the G10/S35 version of this knife. This one has a tiny bit of blade play up and down. None side to side. Tried to adjust it/clean it etc. It's still there. Should i just use it and (since its the Triad lock) not worry? Im trying to talk myself into it being ok. Lol very slight play up and down. What say you? Does anyone else have the LITE version and does yours have that and it's still good? *I would call Cold Steel but called them recently on something else and was put off by them a bit. They were basically no help. Lol

I have one upgraded version and a lite that is that way. I dont know why maybe a tolerance issue. I've put them to use and it isnt going to fail on mine. I expected with wear it would seat in better, but it hasn't changed at all. mine is a very slight up and down depending on how I open the blade.....I've put lots of pressure on it and it tends to eliminate the slight upside down but only until I unlock it again.

ya got two choices. send it back or use it. I choose to use mine.

Yeah. It's very slight. But you can definitely feel it. The funny part is I bought a Range Boss a few weeks ago. Budget CS piece. It's about 40.00. Rock solid! Along with all the others I've ever bought. The Range Boss is pretty damn good BTW.

It will probably wear in with use, but can understand not wanting to take that chance.

I just noticed on my Mini Recon 1 that I can cause minor up/down play. When I first open it, it's fine. But if I grab the blade and try moving it up and down, as if I was checking for play, after a few cycles it will actually start to move. It's as if the forces cause the lockbar to walk itself up a little bit. I can push down on the lockbar, or close and reopen, and it's fine again. It's very minor, so not worried about it. Tried doing the same thing on a few others but can't replicate it.

I don't believe it's a safety or functional issue , but it's not correct either . :(

Most Tri-ad locks , even after much use , are rock solid . Part of their charm .

Better to return it than have it bother you . Might wear in eventually , but why take the chance ?

One pain in the butt option is total disassembly, check for burrs & rotate the pins to a new orientation. Might work but don't get your hopes to high. But firstly you can try loosening the handle, clip and pivot screw and torque the knife side to side a few times. both are rather long shots, but hey

Thanks guys. I did a total disassembly, put it all back together and the slight play up and down still there. I then said okay, lets check the damn thing and did a bunch of hard slashing/chopping/cutting etc to a large heavy duty box I had. I mean, it works well lol Ithink im just going to use it.

If pushing down with your thumb on the blade end of the lockbar eliminates the play or If throwing the blade open with a fair bit of force reduces the play, I'd be increasing the spring tension, especially if the tension feels weaker than some of your others. But I'm crazyo_O

In 2017 I got two of the S35VN SR1s from the first batch. Both had some up/down bladeplay. I read on this forum that this was a common issue with the first batch. Cold Steels German distributor replaced both knives without hesitating.

My SR1 Lite has some play when I open it slowly, but if I open normally or flick it there is none. Doesn't bother me.

Only way I could get play on my SR1 Lite was by opening it and then slowly lowering the lock. The one I got is solid every time it's opened normally. My guess is it just needs to break in. Maybe the tooth of the lock isn't seated far enough down yet. Some oil on the tang might help. Either way, it doesn't affect it in use. If you're alright with it, that's all that really matters. You're not breaking a Tri-ad lock anytime soon.
