Hey guys, i own SRK in SK5 and Compact, i have tried san mai version (VG10), but i didn't like sheet retention most among other things. I would like to buy this knife in 3V steel. I know, that 3V version was made in Taiwan (black), then in Italy (stonewashed 38CKD) and now they make it in Taiwan again (satin 38CKE). Is there difference between made in Italy and made in Taiwan quality of blade and sheet retention? Srk from Italy is discontinued and i can't find it for under 240 euro. I can have SRK 38CKE for about 190 euro.

Thanks

I've been wondering the same thing. I bought the Taiwan versions (CS-38CKE). It hasn't arrived yet. It better still have the same blade geometry as the Italian version (flat grind, strong tip), or I'm sending it back.

If your in Europe can't you use a parcel forwarding service? I got my srk 3v for about $120 then about $17 to ship to the UK. Beats paying EU/UK prices?.... I only have the Taiwan version.

I'm in the US. I got the SRK Taiwan 3V version for $137+change+tax. My only questions are whether you like it, if it's still flat ground, and if the tip is strong. Cold Steel ruined the SRK with the hollow grind, as it made the tip very weak.

I wonder this too. Look, the SRK is a narrow knife, that is a fact, it is NOT a chopper, the Trail Master is way more of a chopper.
It sort of has a hollow grind, but not like a Buck 119, not that hollow. That is kind of how I see the knife, like a heavy duty 119. I have the 3V version. Haven't put it through tough paces yet, but the tip did not lose any needle sharpness being stabbed into drywall material hard.

Hashishiin,

Thank you for the information. That's exactly the knife I wanted. I'm happy to hear you have had a good experience with yours. I have plenty of big choppers. I wanted one knife that can do most things, even if it's not the best knife for the job for any one particular task. The old flat ground SRKs were great for that. I don't know why Cold Steel switched to a hollow grind, and weakened the tip. I haven't received mine yet. I'm looking forward to testing it out. Thank you.

FWIW I pciked up a 38CKE model number SRK and it's flat ground, big beefy tip. Great knife if you can get a good price and I'll probably grab a backup.

Srk in cpm-3V and you need a backup? What are you planning on doing that could possibly damage that beast!?! Lol.
You'd have to try, pretty hard, to break that! Lol
Hope you enjoy it.
