I had an SRK several years ago in carbon steel. Good knife. I dont know why, but I have the urge to get another one and notice it is now AUS-8 steel? Are they still made in USA? Is the quality on them still pretty good? Any help would be appreciated, would like to order it asap if its worth it.

I think all of the cold steel line other than some machetes and the san mai stuff is made in China. I have no idea why they chose to make the SRK in AUS8A instead of SK-5.

edit: Apparently the new SRK is made in Japan. You could probably find the old and much better Carbon V model on the auction site for a good price

The Carbon V knives were made for Cold Steel by Camillus. Camillus went out of business, essentially ending Cold Steel's American production.

AUS-8 is an excellent steel .I've had the CS Master Hunter with that for years.

Anyone have experience or know about Cold Steel's San Maii VG-1 Stainless? That master hunter looks like a pretty good deal.

I dont have any problem with AUS8, but I have a Ka-Bar Bull Dozier, its AUS8 and it works great, just wanted something a little different, maybe 1095, 01 or some other carbon steel.

Take a look at the Camillus CQB-3. It has a carbon steel blade with a black crinkle coating and a textured Micarta handle, comes with a decent sheath. Really tough combat/utility knife. It's been discontinued, but you may still be able to find one.
