which do you think is a better knife?
Please no haters on either SOG or Cold Steel, just say which one is better in your opinion

They are different knives and kind of hard to compare. I have both of these knives and to be hones the Gov Tac is a better looker but the SRK is a more functional knife and ultimately I think a more durable knife. The SRK has a large one piece tang with an overmolded handle while the Gov Tac has a multi-piece handle that tightens with a screw on the back. The SOG pommel attachments have been known to come loose over time. Also, the SRK has a thicker blade profile and a stronger tip. If you are looking for a general hard use knife go SRK, if you want more of a fighter that can do light/medium duty chores go Gov-TAC. Lastly, I like the SRK sheath better. It has a very snug fit with no rattle.

Got the carbon 5 srk ( discontinued) and the Aus 8 version. Myself, I'd go for the Sanmai 3 SRK over the Gov-Tac , or if on a budget the Aus-8 version.

....Or ditch those suggestions and get a Becker BK-7 or Esee 6. Even better.

This.

I've owned both and the SRK is a more functional knife for what you've described. (Perhaps a little small for batoning, but so is the Gov-Tac).

I say srk in San mai 3. I had one a while back and liked it. Had to sell cause I needed $. But it met all my expectations.

i have a srk aus8a for around 4 years and it is good knife, i abused the hell of it and it has not showed any chips or damages, i removed the black expoy and polish to mirror finish, it looks like srk san mai3 now
