Got one of these a couple of weeks back. Very happy with it and, in common with a lot of people who have bought Cold Steel "seconds", I can't see anything wrong with it.

What I'm less happy with is the sheath it came with - a leather sheath rather than the concealex model you'd get if buying the SRK at full price. In any event, both snap closures on the sheath are now broken, in the course of normal use. I've emailed and called Cold Steel and have had no response. I assume they figure I should be happy about getting such a good knife at a great price ($30)which, to a large extent, I am.

I'd like to get another sheath but don't want to pay more for it than the knife cost. Any ideas?

Check with Mike Sastre River City Sheaths. Or, if your feeling like a little experimanting, Kydex or Concealex isn't very expensive, try making your own sheath. It does require a little practice, but you'd be amazed how quickly you can make a decent, servicable sheath. Notice I didn't say professional looking...That takes a little more practice.

If you want to repair the old sheath, you can buy snaps, the punch and anvil used to set them at fabric/sewing shops or craft stores. Take the sheath with you to check the sizes of the snaps, everything should be well under $10 combined. Once you see how they go together, it's pretty easy to take the broken section off and replace it. You'll probably need a drill or dremel tool to remove the crimped material on the broken part, but it can be done with hand tools. Oh, and a hammer to set the new crimp.
Good Luck,
Greg

I make my own sheaths using cardboard and duct tape.
Cost nothing and they are professional looking.
:D :D :D
Cheers,
Gord.

Don't go cheapo on a sheath! Think of it this way. you got a great deal on a great knife. The SRK is a classic! If you get yourself a nice custom consealex from Mike Sastre or Normark (On/Scene Tactical), you'll have a GREAT rig for a great price!

For nylon you can probably get one from Eagle Industries or Blackhawk. For custom nylon, Go SOE Gear all the way. They make the sheaths for Strider knives.

I strongly recommend Normark at On/Scene Tactical for any of your sheath needs. He makes great sheaths and provides even better service.
