I bought a SRK off ebay. The knife is brand new and sharp as all... howeber, the sheath is a kydex type but NOT the on shown on their website (or in the pics on ebay for that matter). Was their a sheath design before the one they offer now? Is it worth the $$$ to get the "correct" sheath?

Thanks,

I've never liked the sheaths CS supplies with their fixed blades (which are superb, IMHO, at least those in Carbon V). My MH and SRK both are now sheathed in leather (I like working with leather). However, if you want the best Kydex/Concealex sheath for such a fine blade, get hold of Normark (a.k.a. Eric Noeldechen).

I'm not a big fan of cold steel's sheaths either.
I have an ODA which i am very pleased with, however the sheath leaves much to be desired.

I bought an SRK "second" from Cold Steel some time ago, which came with a leather sheath which was truly a POS. Replaced it with an OnScene/Tactical sheath and couldn't be happier with it. Eric is a great guy to deal with.

Alberta: Where did you get your leather sheath?

Does anyone have an "extra" Cold Steel SRK Kydex sheath that they don't like but would be willing to part with? I think the one I have is the one that comes with the seconds (the knife was a dealer display).

Thanks,
Michael

Nathaniel4, I made it myself from tough thick latigo leather (the kind used for saddles and harness). It's one piece, hand stitched with waxed nylon thread, and I sealed the leather with SnowSeal melted in, so I've never had a problem with the leather retaining moisture. I also put on a thick welt to avoid the edge cutting through as much as possible -- probably not jump proof, but then I don't plan to hurl myself out of an airplane while wearing it attached to a belt.:D You can probably find patterns in your local library.
