I have the oppurtunity to get either one for $50.

Which one is a better knife for the money? It will get slightly abused as a camp/field/hunting knife.

Thanks for any input.

Hey Joe..

for sure the Becker..

It is 10X the knife the SRK would ever hope to be...

SRK is a decent knife,, I just find the edge too thick..
The Becker by far will outcut it any day...

ttyle

Eric...

They are an equal value. I prefer the SRK becasue it is a lot lighter weight. The Becker BK10 is closer in size to the SRK than the BK7, but also much heavier.

Who makes the SRK for Cold Steel?

Is that a rhetorical question?

I think Carbon V steel comes from Camillus, but do they (Camillus) actually MAKE the knife?

The SRK has a thick edge, but I reprofiled mine. It's a tough knife. I don't have any experience with the Becker.

Not rhetorical at all. Cold Steel makes no knives. I wondered who made the SRK.

I like both of those knives, but give the nod to Becker. And as far as price goes, why not buy a BK&T7 for a little less? Try here. A Cold Steel SRK is one of those basic "must have" fixed blades, whether for the truck, bug out bag, etc. Great knife for the money, and easy to replace if you have to.

Camillus makes both knives.
I like the Becker more but the SRK feels more secure in my hand and is more compact.

Using that logic (thick edge) the Becker is 10X more knife than most Busse and SR knives.
I wouldn't go that far but obviously a thinner edge is much more useful for the majority of tasks a knife is rightfully called upon to perform.

Unclejoe357,

Before you decide, try to handle both to see which feels better FOR YOU.
I went with the Becker, but while I liked it better than the SRK, other people just hate the feel of the Becker's handles.

I also agree with Eric, that Becker has a much better edge and bevel.

You can get the Becker under $50 at
http://www.knivesplus.com/CM-BK7-BKT-Combat-Utility-Knife.html

(I am not affiliated, just a happy customer of theirs. This is where I got my Becker too).

But I think, you really should try to hold them in your hand first. It can save you some disappointments and money.

If you are going to be using your knife for extensive prying or hacking through hard materials (knots, metal, even hard plastics) the SRK will probably be a better choice.

If you are going to be using your knife for cutting and slicing the BK7 is probably better to meet your needs, it has a more acute primary grind and much thinner edge than the SRK.

Definitely handle the BK-7 before you buy it, or plan on possibly selling it if you buy it sight unseen- the handle can be an issue. I've owned a BK1, 2, 5, and 9, and despite the fact that the handle is identical on all four, the only one that felt good in the hand (for me!) was the BK9 (well, the BK11 too, but it's a different handle design).

Thanks for all the replies!

I found the Becker for $35, so I went with that. Here in South Jersey knives of the tacti-cool quality type arent easy to come by, so I wont get the chance to handle one. If I have a problem with the handle I'll corwrap, reprofile or make a new one.

(Un)fortunately I think I'll get the SRK as well. Im not even sure why. :)

I've had them both. BK7 is a better alround knife, mainly due to it's slicing ability. The SRK is lighter and almost as good a chopper. The SRK was my main blade on many hiking and kayaking trips before I got fussy and started looking for something better.
