Cold Steel - SRK vs Recon Scout - vote !

just depends on if you like a longer knife or not. both can be found in carbon v and you can get the SRK in aus-8 stainless if you need a stainless knife.

If you like chopping, the RS is very good for a knife its size. If you are concerned with weight, the SRK is a great knife also.

Recon Scout seems like an ideal knife to me. Thick spine, Long enough for chopping good guard. Good belly for skinning. I have the Trail Master Bowie. Even though I have it, I still eyeball that recon scout a lot.

I have a SRK in Carbon V that is smply a magnificent knife by any standards!:)

I polished the black krap off of the blade, and reprofiled it to a convex edge. It's my general camping and hiking knife. It's also my "go to" knife when I have something to cut where I don't want to risk damage to my Bark Rivers or Doziers.

To me, at least, the SRK in Carbon V is one of those rare items where you actually get more than your money's worth.:D:D:D

I have a Carbon V Recon Scout and I must say it is a great knife. It is thick, heavy, and has a great edge because of the full flat grind.

I'd imagine the SRK would be better if you want a lighter knife or one without a double guard.

polished blade + convex edge => why not a Fallkniven A1 ?

Best? Best for WHAT? Without further clarification I'd have to choose my older SRK made of Carbon V.

Without handeld one, I'd said the RS is a better knife (chopper, fighting knife , double guard, 7" blade, 5/16" thick) and is also probably sharpest due the profil of the balde but the SRK is so popular ... that I need some advise before buy one of both

The SRK is a possibly a better value - more knife for the low price - but in any competition where the Scout's bigger size doesn't outright disqualify it, I can't see it not being the better knife.

Now an interesting comparison is the RS vs the long out of production Bush Ranger. Leaving aside aesthetic differences, the Bush Ranger is pretty much a kraton guard Scout in 3/16" rather than 5/16" stock. They're both 7" full flat ground bowies. The RS chops much better, because it weighs twice as much. The BR carries easier and slices better - thinner edge as well as thinner stock.

Recon Scout is better if you need to chop a lot. Otherwise there's no point )ha ha?) to carrying all that additional mass.

I'd go with the SRK because I don't like tanto's with an upswept to them. For any knife but especially a tanto I prefer a drop point.

Total agreement.

Any advice over the SRK in Aus8 ? is the edge as sharp as the SRK in CarbonV ? What about the edge retention ?
