What are your guy's opinions on Cold Steel's SRK vs. the SOG Seal Pup? If you had to pick one, which one would you pick? Which one is the superior when compared? Any experiance comparing the two, or the different versions of each?

I have both, my SRK is about 15 years old in Carbon V steel. I like the handle and the steel of the older SRK, and the SRK is bigger. The SRK handle is kraton and more comfortable in the hand. It's a superior chopper, too. The newer SR In AUS-8 should be pretty good, too, and more rust-resistant.

I hope this helps!

I prefer the strength of the SRK better. The SRK also has a sabre grind and the Sog is hollow ground.

The SOG is more of a fighter style knife, not really meant for chopping. The SRK is a beast of a knife, the size alone lends itself for heavy duty tasks.

I personally handled a SOG a few days ago, and liked it's style. At the same time, I found the "scalloped" back edge to be more of in the way than helpfull. So the small blade design reminded me of the SRK a bit, which led me to this thread. Does the SRK's kraton handle feel more like plastic or rubber?

I would go for the srk out of the 2, the kraton feels more like stiff rubber and I have not had a problem with it on my trailmaster or oda

both knives are aus-8 and comparable, I do not like the scalloped back on the pup

still kicking myself for not getting an srk in carbonv

BTW benchmade has a really good srk clone in 1095 carbon with leather pants, just checked one out a couple weeks ago and was impressed. For about the same cash as the srk and better steel. You should check it out.

Or , spend a few more bucks and try out the wonderful Fallkniven S1, VG10 steel , same size and shape as SRK roughly. Cost is near the same , quality is much more.

I've seen the Benchmade CSK's blade seperate and wiggle from the handle when battoning, so even though I like it a bit more than the SRK, it isn't a choice for me. I am looking at a TOPS Marine Corps Knife as I write though.

I have the SRK in carbon V, great camp knife, one of my favorite users. Love that knife. That and an F1 have seen the most use in my outings.

I think the SRK would do way better for utility tasks. The Pup Elite is a nice knife. I keep one in my pack to gut deer. It's a little big for that kind of thing, but it would work for other things as well. You could also look at an ESEE 5 or 6 for a bit more. They're both in 1095.

I have owned both for quite some time. I tend to grab my Pup Elite (combo edge) for hiking and things like that b/c it's a bit smaller than the SRK and the sheath has a front pocket that holds my multiplier perfectly.

A while back I had gotten a great deal on a new SanMai VG1 SRK and it's a nice, thick 6 inch knife that will take anything I throw at it. I like the steel--strong and easy to sharpen. The kraton handle is definitely no-slip but starts to rub off over time. For camping--as much as I like my larger CS Recon Scout and REALLY like my RAT CS-6, I find myself trying to find reasons to use my SRK.
