I was at the hardware store today and saw a Cold Steel SRK. I'm kind of looking for a good, strong, all-around utility fixed blade with very good cutting performance. I know that it has Cold Steel's Carbon V steel-which I've heard good things about. It's also very reasonably priced. If anyone is familiar with this knife, I'd appreciate some feedback. Thanks!

I had one for about 5 years and it performed well for the price.
This was an older model with cordura/nylon sheath. The sheath (then) was the only weak link as didn't hold up well as the snaps (2 retaining straps) were not of good quality. Thye now offer the concealex/kydex type scabbard which is probably better.

Mine has held up beautifully. Which reminds me: Where the hell is it? I haven't seen mine in a good 3 or 4 months!
Dang it, now I have to start looking for it.

I had one, and liked it. For me the weak point was the handle. It was very rough, and not very hand filling. But then again, I might just have been spoiled by resiprene-c  All in all, it was a good knife.

I have medium sized hands, however, I broke the knuckle of my right little finger when I was younger & dumber & as such, I tend to like the smaller circumference of the Cold Steel handles versus some other knives. I'd have to agree with you about Resperene C though ;)

Editted to add: If you have large hands, I'd highly recomend the Kabar Heavy Bowies if you want a very economical knife in a good carbon steel. The sheath is nothing to write home about but for less than $40, this is one heck of a knife more comparable to a BK7 (IMO) or similar...

Webs, go for it. Check prices online to see if its a good deal. I got mine years ago and it has cleaned more than a few large bucks down to quail and trout. If the price is right go and get it............ :)

Great knife. The Kraton grip is one of the best for extreme field conditions -- cold, wet, greasy, bloody, covered with fat... you could bet your life on this knife. :D

Yep..had an SRK & sold it to a survivalist type. It was not a bad knife, just hard to sharpen. Cold Steel has the Rockwell high which is good. In reality it is a good tough knife but, did not fit into my scheme of things. The SRK I had did not cut all that well due to the thick profile.

Great all around do anything knife. I've had mine since 98 or 99 and really put it through its paces. I used it during my military time as not only a field knife but also as a Kitchen knife while in barracks. I've used it in the woods to build shelters, split wood, and dress out game. I've found it very easy to resharpen as well as being thick enough for light chopping and heavy prying. Out of the 100 plus knives I own I still consistantly go back to this one, even over higher priced blades.

I have used mine quite a bit and enjoy it. I don't think you could beat it for the money.

Light for it's size, cheap, strong... Got mine online for $48 and for the above combo of qualities can't be beat.

Will
